we leave our traditions both old and newly made, to those SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS OF '59 Presuient Larry Barley Vlce President Blll Taylor Secretary Judy Barley Treasurer Stan Munson Class Hzstory As the 1959 graduates of Ingalls Jumor Semor Hlgh School enter the long cham of Oak Leaves that serves as the doorway leadlng them away from carefree hlgh school days 1nto the years of serlous Llfe that are ahead they can hear the orchestra begmmng to play the beautlful stralns of Pomp and Clrcumstance For us thls w1ll al ways be the song of our semor year and all the other years we have spent at A H S There have been other songs that stand out ln our history as a recognlzed class as well No one could ever forget hearmg the dreamllke melody of Make Beheve as Kmg Davld Laurle and ueen Eloise Satterfleld clrcled the dance floor and the Sports Dance brought our fresh man year to an end There were 174 of us then and 152 remalned the next year to make the vlctory song our own when our sophomore athletes dld us proud Buck Thompson D8V1d Laurle and Phll Plckrell lettered ln varslty football as sophomores whlle Butch Ball played on the A team basketball squad and Buck Thompson Bill Taylor and Roland Tyler brought us glorres on the clnder track Of course the song of our jumor year was none other than the enchantmg Three COIHS ln the Fountam It served as the theme of our memorable flrst Prom Every minute of our hard work as hosts of the 58 senlors was worth lt as we stood gazxng starry eyed at the wonderful transformatron of the new gym lnto a Roman garden complete to a real fountaln whose bubbllng splashing water and shy dartlng goldflsh were lntrlgumg to all present Responslble for those wonders were president Buck Thompson v1ce presldent Larry Balley treasurer Blll Taylor and secretary Susan Frantz the four vlc torlous 0fflCC seekers of the junlor class electlons They also were responslble for 3SSlStlIlg the cast of Stardust 1n producing that extremely successful junlor play whlch was under the dlrectlon of student Loretta Boatrlght and faculty member Mrs Helen Volk There were other act1v1t1es whxch lnterested us our Jumor year too as many jumors 10lI1Cd Semor Band and Orchestra and were ln Semor Chorus Four par tlclpated rn Madrlgals 10 boys lettered ln football w1th Buck Thompson and Curtls Hutchmson bemg placed on N E KL All Star teams 4 more lettered 1n basketball and 10 rn track In track Davld Laurle Buck Thompson and Curtls Hutchmson all helped set new school records and Buck was able to take a 2nd and a 4-th at the state meet Mary Brlttaln was the only varsrty jumor cheerleader whlle Marllyn Hoecker Lynn Buenmng Elolse Satter fleld and Judy Balley helped wlth the B team pep Susan Frantz as secretary was the only Jumor Kayette offlcer and Loretta Boatrlght was chosen Mlss Sweet Slxteen of Atchison as the jumor year came to a close for us all w1th the happy echoes of the ,lun1orSen1or P1cn1c Now came our last hlgh school summer vacatxon whose theme song mlght have been ATravel1n We Wlll G Buck Thompson CUIIIS Hutchmson C11 Merrltt Butch Ball and Blll Taylor left school early for Wrchlta as Atchlsons Sunflower Boys State representatlves Mary Brlttam spent a week 1n Lawrence actmg as the Glrls State representative Neva Brockman recelved a scholar shlp to K U for the Mxdwestern Muslc Camp and Ken Nash and Marty Bmkley journeyed to Topeka to play rn the Kansas Llons Clubs All State Band They all made lt back ln tlme however to share wlth the rest of us the most glorlous year of all 1958 59 our o . . . . . . . . . . 9 9 9 3 . . .
