SHARON WILLIAMS Treasurer CAROLE GRAY Secretary JOHN LAURIE Presldent ROGER BECK Vlce Presndent Leavnng AHS wrll be a sad but yet loyful occasnon for the class of l9S8 The many engoyable experiences we have had wall never be forgotten as we graduate each to go our own way Asa Freshman class of l84 we entered many new and excrtrng actrvutles and soon become l83 strong as Soph omores An outstanding expernence our Jumor year was the electron of class offucers The suspense felt by all was drawn to a close wuth the electron of Presudent Le land Flachsbarth Vrce Presndent Cap Berger Secretary Lynn Brown and Treasurer John Laurue Soon our suc cessful play To Blush Unseen under the durectlon of Mrs Helen Volk was presented A team cheerleaders Sally Wycoff Mary Kay Johnson Cel Palmer and Joyce Cochran and B team cheerleaders Sally Walker Hattie Shook Delores Strawn Morgue Hammond and Lynn Brown cheered our many athletes on theur way Eught lunlor boys lettered In football three rn basketball and fave nn track Four rumors recenved speech awards and many others recerved muslc and varvous other awards Dorothy Dyer was chosen to attend Gurl s State and John Wortman Larry McLenon Leland Flachsbarth John Laurue and John Arnold attended Boy s State Cap Berger was elected presndent of the student councnl for the future year and to the theme of Deep Purple our rumor year ended As Sensors numberlng l47 we elected John Laurie class presndent Roger Beck vuce presrdent Carole Gray secretary and Sharon Wvllnams treasurer after a vagorous campaugn between the US and Abrllty Partles Homecom Ing was awonderful success as our fme football team de feated Central and Sharon Wslllams was crowned queen. Sharon's attendants were Lynn Brown, Sally Wycoff, Jannce Handke, and Carole Gray. The Optlmlst was soon prnnted under a staff conslstlng of Dorothy Dyer, Char lotte Purdum Sally Walker Znbbne Gullespue Ann Drury Carole Gray Leland Flachsbarth Jannce Handke Delores Strawn Hattie Shook and Muke Fltzwater Senior reporters were Jack Brandt Judy Martun and Cel Palmer Leading the Kayettes were Dorothy Dyer Carole Gray and Margie Hammond and nn charge of Hu Y were John Laurie Le land Flachsbarth John Wortman and Cap Berger Mike Frtzwater Sally Walker Gary Edwlnson and Cel Palmer were chosen to lead Drama club Pep club Boys A club and Gnrls A club respectnvely Roger Beck and Tom Arm strong were very active nn Debate actlvltles and took many honors The Tranlblazer staff consrsted of co edutors Beverly Benshoof and Lawrence Shaver along wrth Bob Hundley Norman Cooley Francns McConnaughey and Shirley Beagle Placang second nn our league nn football was a won derful feat for our football team and seniors ended their hugh school football careers and were awarded letters Quarterback Leland Flachsbarth was placed on the All Area team and was also cited for the All American hugh school football team AHS was further honored when Gary Edwmson and Leland Flachsbarth were selected for the all star NEKL furst eleven and Clarence Smith and Cap Berger placed on the second strung AHS also placed sec ond un basketball In the NEKL Sensors ending therr hugh school basketball careers were John Wortman Clarence Smnth Gary Edwlnson Leland Flachsbarth and John Laurne Athletnc mrnded sensors also partnclpated an track golf and tennls As usual our class had many frne musnclans partuc rpatrng rn band orchestra chorus and Bellrmgers Sen nor Januce Parker was AHS s head drum malorette A team cheerleaders were Cel Palmer Lynn Brown Sally Wycoff Joyce Cochran and Mary Kay Johnson The Chrrstmas Dance was a huge success as was the Pepper mint Paradnse Dance when Prmcess Cel Palmer and Prince Leland Flachsbarth were crowned The Sensor Play The Great Bug Doorstep ' was pre sented on Aprrl 'l0 ll under the dnrectlon of Mr Bernard Hudson Wnth a cast of l2 and many hard working crews the play proved to be very enloyable Many honors were drstrubuted throughout our senlor year Dorothy Dyer was chosen AHS s Future Homemaker of the year and Carole Gray was selected the DAR good cntlzen of AHS and was also selected to attend Leadership Day at KU Charlotte Purdum won the Bobbe Meade Memornal Scholarship and Zrbbne Gullespae the Mother Lucy Scholarshup These are lust afew of the honors and scholarshnps awarded seniors durmg thelr frnal year Wuth the start of graduatnon actnvntnes prctures were taken announcements ordered Krd Day celebrated and the pncnlc was guven for the rumors In return for their enloyable prom Wuth the two frnal actnvntnes of graduatron Bacco laureate and Commencement our hugh school days drew to a close We now stand on the threshold of a new llfe for whnch AHS has grven us a fme background and many wonderful memories e e I I I I I I I I r ' 1 1 ' 1 1 .
