bussness and commerce or attend numerous colleges unsversstses and specslszed schools to further our educatson Of course taksng our place sn the communsty os better cstlzens ss our mom goal We entered these halls as green freshmen l89 strong and progressed to sophomores wsth a class of l62 We grew a lsttle smarter and a lsttle less awed by those bsg sensors l38 enrolled as Junsors and besng such, we had our class electsons Wsth the polstscal partses of Csmeama scope Cool and Lsfe Saver, we had many smagsnatsve posters The results of our effort found Tom Wyrsck press dent Bsll Allsson, vsce pressdent Patty Peterson, secretary and Evelyn Stanley treasurer Junsor Play posters soon decorated the halls as the productson Smarter and Smoother dsrected by Msss Msldred Worrel was presented November 22 Musscal abslsty was shown by many of us as there were 22 sn both Sr Bond and Orchestra and I6 sn Sr Chorus Cheersng the boys sn the varsous sports were Patty Peterson varssty cheerleader and Genny Lentz and Evelyn Stanley B Team cheerleaders There were 8 athletsc msnded boys out for football IO sn basketball and I2 track men Dave Thornsng was chosen by the Student Councsl as Press dent for our Sensor year Wsth the theme Artssts Boll, we were hosts to the sensors who sn turn snvsted us to the .lr Sr pscnsc whsch ended our Junsor year Wsth only one polstscal party lPeIvssl and four sndepen dents Sensor year was well under way Wsth a complete vsctory the class chose the Pelvss candsdates Pressdent Dave Whste Vsce Pressdent Ann Allen Secretary and for her second year as Treasurer Evelyn Stanley The fsrst sssue of the Optsmsst was prsnted wsth Sally Frantz Barbara Hoecker Carmen Pace Sandy Laurse Ann Allen Roberta Morrsson Pat Whste Dorothy McCourt, Bsll Nestler Ralph Cooley and Sharon Lesn on the staff and Tom Wyrsck Dsck Beattse John and Joe Msze, Bsll Knoch Ernest Smsth and Evelyn Stanley as reporters Sandy Laurse was chosen by the Globe to wrste the hsgh school column Hs Tsmes Norman Van Lsew was chosen edstor of the Traslblazer and work was soon begun Clubs were organszed wsth a large number of sensors sn Drama Club headed by Judy Ball Pressdent, Roberta Morrsson Vsce Pressdent, Ann Allen, Secretary and Dorothy McCourt, Treasurer Beverly Neavstt and John Msze were elected Pressdents of Gsrls and Boys AClub Our DAR representatsve, Alsce Peak was also pressdent of Kayettes wsth Potty Peterson vsce pressdent and Jsm Wallace was our HsY pressdent Sports season soon began wsth many outstandsng sensors on the football and basketball teams Among these were Wayne Nstz Dave Thornsng Albert Joe Msller Dave Whste Bsll Knoch, Joe Msze John Msze Dsck Beattse James Spotser, Tom Wyrsck Dale Henderson and Bsll Allsson Cheersng the teams to many vsctorses were our varssty cheerleaders Evelyn Stanley, and Patty Peterson BTeam cheerleaders were Beverly Neavstt and Barbara Nestler Jean Crasg led the marchsng band of whsch I3 sensors were members sn many smpresssve half tsme ceremonses The pep band led by Jsm Ferrell and Kathy Cummsngs pro vsded the vsctorsous atmosphere for our basketball games Wsth such outstandsng athletes as Dave Whste Wayne Nstz on the dsrt track and Nelson Greenlund and Joe Msze on the green wsth the golf team these teams were natur ally wsnners Dave Thornsng placed fsrst strsng on the all NEKL football team whsle our Wayne Nstz and Tom Wyrsck proudly placed second strsng of the all NEKL team To the strasns of Sweetheart of Ssgma Chs Patty Peterson was crowned our Homecomsng Queen dursng the half tsme of the Ottawa Atchsson game, whsch proved the Redmen vsctorous Her attendance were Judy Schletabaum Tamara Dawe Darlene Zoschke Judy Ball and Jean Crasg The Chrsstmas Dance carrysng out the theme Chrsstmas ln Blue was a success as was the Sprsng Formal Bue Hawass whsch turned the gym snto a Hawassan paradsse Green Valley the Sensor Class productson dsrected by Bernard Hudson was presented Aprsl 6 to a large and ap precsatsve audsence Wsth o cast of 26 members plus smaller brothers and sssters the play was a huge success Many honors were won by talented sensor artssts Larry Fowler Ernest Smsth Connse Strawn and Shsrley Surrstt were awarded Gold Keys by Emery Bsrd Thayer Madersdals preformed several tsmes dursng the course of the year wsth Carmen Pace Jsm Ferrel James Spotser, Barbara Nestler and Eddse Garten sncluded sn the group The German Band wsth sensors Davsd Lovelace and Jlm Ferrell appeared on TV numerous tsmes on Talent Round Up The sensor chorus was supported by twelve sensors who also took part sn the Operetta A Masquerade sn Vsenna Placsng orders for announcements ssttsng for psctures and gettsng measured for caps and gowns made the sprsng a busy one Tsme out for play was taken when the Junsors snvsted us to the Prom and we sn turn were hosts at the Pscnsc We really lsved st up on one last flsng on Ksd Day when we were truly ksds agasn As we lsstened to the Bacculearate servsce and marched down the ssle between the Oak Leaves to the strasns of Pomp and Csrcumstance we fsnally realszed what wed looked forward to ssnce ksndergarten We now leave A H S behsnd and have
