A CADEMICS Hail to Thee Our Alma Mater As We Start the Day. . . A bugle sounds, the flag is raised, and a day at Atascadero Union High School be- gins with a serene and silent declaration of allegiance to our nation. A government student sees history being made. A sopho- more in Spanish gains an insight into the feelings of a foreign people. An English Student learns the power of words . A biology student sees the beauty of life. A chemistry student marvels at the intricacy of matter. The spark of curiosity and understanding is kindled and the torch of learning is passed.

Faculty Departments Guiding, instructing, and advising, the members of the faculty dedicate themselves to the preparation of young people for adult life. Through their work in the classrooms they relate facts necessary for an understanding of world affairs and the scientific advances being made today. In ade dition to this they teach the students to reason and to express themselves effectively. They also serve as advisors for student activities and organizations, helping the students to attain social and or- ganizational skills. As counselors they assist the students in their choice of curriculum, preparing them for college or a vocation. In all these functions; teacher, adviser, counselor, the faculty members strive for the welfare and enlightenment of the students of Atascadero Union High School.
