' . A TA SCADERO UNION HIGH SCHOOL AD ROCA LIFORMA Editors ' Patti Backer f ' J0 Croft Dedz'ca Ifz'an Loyalty, devotion to an ideal, and the courage to fight, win or lose, --these are some of the qualities of a leader. To these qualities, add sparkling blue eyes, a grin capable of lighting the darkest day, and a sense of humor that never fails and you have one of the most popu- lar and influential people on our campus . This year we are using the Alma Mater as our theme, and in doing so we have chosen one of the true leaders of our Alma Mater. Because of his unfailing generosity and in keeping with our theme; with our warmest appreciation and affection we, the Santa Lucia Staff of 1964, wish to dedicate this volume to our teacher, coach, and friend. A bugle sounds, the flag is raised, and a day at Atascadero Union High School be- gins with a serene and silent declaration of allegiance to our nation. A government student sees history being made. A sopho- more in Spanish gains an insight into the feelings of a foreign people. An English Student learns the power of words . A biology student sees the beauty of life. A chemistry student marvels at the intricacy of matter. The spark of curiosity and understanding is kindled and the torch of learning is passed. Administratian MR. GEORGE B. They also serve as advisors for student activities and organizations, helping the students to attain social and or- ganizational skills. As counselors they assist the students in their choice of curriculum, preparing them for college or a vocation. In all these functions; teacher, adviser, counselor, the faculty members strive for the welfare and enlightenment of the students of Atascadero Union High School. Members of the group, while gaining valuable experience in self government, promote a better relation- ship between the student body and the adminis- tration. Mutual respect and understanding be- tween the two groups grow as the many prob- lems of school life are studied. The Student Council encourages direct participation from a maximum number of representatives of the student body. The unusually close unity be- tween itself and the members of the student body is a matter of pride . An outstanding aCe t complishment this year is representing student 1 opinion at meetings of the board and of the i policy committee . As a student at A.U. H. S. , Nickie has been an integral part of all student activities and spent much of her time answering questions about her native France and assuring her friends that French teenagers are just like their American counterparts. Nickie's effervescent spirit is her trademark, and her energy and enthusiasm have made her well known on campus. Through her we have gained an understanding of the French people and a knowledge of their nation. Even more important, we have known Annick Bourgogne as one of us and We will not forget her. Through the service organizations of Our town they help to improve the down- town community and assist in youth pro- jects. They are our friends, our rela- tives, and our employers. In all of these capacities, they are helpful not only to the individual, but to youth as a whole by promoting student activities and provide encouragement in many fields.
