SENIOR HISTORY BY WINOLA AKERS In September 1940 fxfty two green Freshles were welcomed to A U H S After a large class of Senxors welcomed us ln thelr own way we felt we really belonged here Under the able dlrectlon of Mrs Bxshop and hir Ewxng we got off to a good start The ramlest season of many years was clxmaxed on the stormlest night by a successful Freshman dance w1th refreshments floor show and brand new records We started our Sophomore year out wxth a skatmg party follow ed by a success ful candy sale Because of blackout regulatlons we gave the fxrst afternoon dance, whxch proved to be qulte a success After our dance we treated ourselves to a weenle bake We ended our Sophomore act1v1t1es by glvlng a dance wlth the Swmg Band supplymg the rhythm As unlors we declded to sell candy durlng the noon period whxch was a great help to our class treasury The proceeds from our unlor dance the President s Birth day Brawl were grven to the March of Dunes The umor Senlor Promenade was held at the Atascadero Lake The hall was cleverly decorated to resemble an old Eng lrsh tavern At last we were the Hrgh and MlghtlCS After we had lI'lltl3.fCd the Freshmen to our satrsfactlon we gave them a grand receptxon In anuary we gave a strlctly formal Mxd Wmter Ball May 18th we enjoyed a chlcken barbecue Our deep apprecratxon goes to Coach Ewmg who has been our class adviser for four years and to Nlxss Worden who has been wlth us for three years When weve had trouble or problems they always have been rlght there for us to go to and, wlth thelr krndly and helpful advlce, we ve weathered many storms Many of our classmates are graduatlng with honors thxs year lvlargle Hender son, Enola Andrews and Shlrley Albert are on the C S F and Enola and Shirley are Seal Bearers or llfe members of the C S F Nellle Baro Peggy Powers James Cornelxus, Enola Andrews, Tahoma Hemmg way Margie Henderson and Jennmgs Van Matre are all gettlng Servlce Awards Wmnle Akers and Jxm Cornelxus are recexvlng the Frlendly Comrade Award As the end of our high school days draw near we are lookmg forward to Bacca laureate, June 4th, but most of all to Commencement June 8th We take wlth us four years of precxous memorles, and a deep feelmg for our Alma Mater and her faculty ' I u I I , . . 1 1 1 ' , - . .. . . SENIOR PROPHECY BY TAHOMA HEMINGWAY In the personal column of the world s largest newspaper, Atascadero News, for June 9 1964, we were surprised to notice the names of a number of graduates of the class of 44 There was also a notice that Madame Nellie Baro the famous pianist singer is scheduled to appear at the La Moda Opera House for two weeks running Mrs john Hazard, the former Wmme Akers, was seen in tovsn shoppmg at the Lucien Fritz: Ann Lelong Shop Col and Mrs Hazard were also house guests at the hxme of Mr and 'VIrs Dave Greenaway fthe former Blondie Andrewsb while m town The afternoon was spent flying in the Greenaways little fly about, stopping at the Atascadero Natlonal Hospital to see Margie Henderson, who ns now head nurse Mrs Greenaway had installed in her home that amazing new feature, a Husbavlsor which enables her to keep track of Dave at all times When she completes paying off the in stallments on this fixture, she vull IDX est ln an attachment which vsarns the husband before he does something It says No the first time, if unheeded, pmches, and then if no results shoots rm Of course you wouldnt believe this important IIN entzon had been designed by none other than Earl Adams and Ernest Van Matre of our class A clever bunch, that class of 44 Oh yes and the other day whxle walking down Atascadero and Vine, Dorothy Cuppers, the Blond Bombshell from AUH S was seen riding around in Rusty Hunters new super Adllac Convertible Of course you know how news gets around, and we found they had spent the eve ning in the Rose Room at the Carlton Hotel It 15 rumored they are keeping quite steady company Did you see that story in Life about Senator Jim Cornelius who invented that famous Hot Rod Cooler the new garage in which you can put your helicopter away without bringing lt dovvn to earth? Thrs is bringing in quite a sum of money but as he didnt take Economics, he can t figure out whether he IS getting Real Income or Psychlc Income, and has gone on a diet of him a chance to get away from xt all Especially if Secretary Sue James IS along with her little notebook That other famous tvun, Jennings Van Matre, who has been running as the Democratic candidate for President against Betty Southwick Republican is also vsorkmg on the problem of getting back up to your helicopter after parking it Sheriff Irene Day head of the one man posse after the Burgermerster Kid who IS reported in the vicinity of South and Canteen Street, said she almost has him just a matter of months. Miss Bobsin, a tutor at the Berlmonte School for Brams has just returned from Marne where she spent the nlght to attend a concert of Harmonica Players Upon being asked about what had become of her old gang she said she saw Shirley fWebberj Albert and her family plcmckmg out at the Atascadero Lake National Park Shirley should graduate from the U of Cal this term Billie Hall and her husband, Norman, have returned to their ranch ln Killeen, Texas, after a visit wlth Mr and Mrs Charles Langley fTahoma Hemingwayj, and the Langley Qumts. The Qulnts are all boys and look just like their father, Billie said Henrietta Estrada and Rita Villa will settle down in their little mansion nn Pozo just two blocks from the Brown Derby after serving overseas 5 years in the WAMS General Ted Waddell and Virginia Parlet have fmally decided to get married and settle down as he IS now retired and they can spend all their time alone and continue their hobby of mounting insects, which they have both gone buggy over That certamly must have been a romantic class, from the looks of the marriage license bureaus Bob Rhodes and his wife, Janice and Louis Mack, with his charming wife, Evelyn Guy, have decided to live together ln one big house, as Louis IS afraid to be alone with Evle Our one tried and true bachelor, Ramon Patterson, says Ill never never marry a woman. They are the biggest mistake Nature made' He will probably never know what he missed We hear Peggy Powers IS still Editor of the New York Times For a short while she was Assistant Editor of the Womans Home Companion Well, look us up in another ten years or so, and see where everyone ls, and how they're do- ing Remember, you can expect anything in these times.
