The year 1977 held many new and young surprises. The team demonstrated a real ability to keep their heads up and overcome obstacles. ASTORIA HARRIERS FINISH 11TH AT STATE CROSS COUNTRY MEET The Harriers fared well this year. John Gooden- berger was J.V. individual champion, and Peter Ka- nowski, Fred Sproul, Terri Hicks, and Shawn Sch- melzer made All-League All-Stars in the District Championships. The Fisherettes finished in 6th place at Districts, and Terri Hicks and Shawn Sch- melzer placed 9th and 10th as All-League runners. The boys ' Varsity team traveled to Eugene for the State meet for the fourth consecutive year. Astoria ' s highest finisher was Fred Sproul, placing 18th.
