CLASS HISTORY May Seniors 1 9 3 5 Officers President ,......,..,.............., Edward Ericksen Vice-President ..,.. ........... S igfred Jensen Secretary ,,,,,.,,.. .,..... V lCIl0 Osterlund Treasurer ,,,,,.,,,,,.,,,...,..,.......... Ellen Arvola Entering as a new crop of green sophomores, the class of 1935 soon began to show their pep and blossom into the class it has now become, one of the best ever to leave the portals of Astoria High School. The leadership of Wally Johansen was most important in the success of the first year men and women, but backing him up were Miss Jean Sim and Miss Hilda Bran- stator, as able advisers. Outstanding in the year's achievements was the annual Sopho- more Hop. The sophomores, according to tradition, built a huge bonfire to climax the Salem rally of the year 1932. When it came time for these selfsame sophomores to be considered upperclassmen, they were ready to assume all the dignity and responsibility that goes with the Junior class. To show their earnestness this class proceeded to win the annual Pep pennant from under the very eyes of the gloating seniors. With a record attendance, Polly with a Past Was produced and chalked up a victory in the dramatic field. Frank Woodfield led the grand march at the Junior Prom as well as the Junior class. Under the directorship of Miss Edith Clifford and Miss Violet Crofoot, the juniors called their second year in Astoria High School a success and moved on to higher levels. Under the guidance of Miss Zoe Allen, Miss Margaret Smith, and Edward Ericksen, the class presented the play, The Man on Stilts. It was the first time any play with so large a cast has ever been given in Astoria. With the Senior Ball, the class bade goodbye to the January seniors and turned their eyes toward the picnic, the banquet, the play, the prom, baccalaureate, and commencement, with Mr. Warner to give the parting speech to the May seniors of '35. Ericksen Jensen Osterlund Arvola 1996
