B-Team Basketball The jnmior Varsity had a good season winning 5 and losing 15. The main squad of five is rather undetermined because several players would be changed from time to time dur ing different games. Roger Bucher, LeRoy Bollinger, Gary White, Kenny Ward, Vernon Johnson, and David Renner were the main backbone of the team. The IV's had a total of 929 points for the season. They made 238 free throws out of 484 of their shots. Kenny Ward lead the IV's scoring during the year with 215 points Their scoring is as follows: Astoria 32 . 38 . 42 . 57 . 36 . 33 . 30 45 . 30 . 56 . 45 . . Glasford .... 40 33 . . Varsity Basketball Team The Astoria Pirates started the season by dropping the first game to a rough Glasford team. But came back from that game to win the games following. The Pirates reserve power showed their real strength in several of the important games this year. The original first five were Lockard, Miller, White, Poppenhager, and Bowman. Several of the reserves will be back next year. Bowman was awarded a trophy for having the best per centage of free throws Some totals and statistics on. the team are The Astoria Pirates made 376 free throws made for the season--.7636. as follows: out of 570, giving them a per centage mark of .650.
