j£ 5S ' G HEIGHTS 1980 ASSUMPTION COLLEGE WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS Volume Twenty-two A - Vs we Assumptionists review the College’s first seventy-five years, our first thoughts are of admiration for those who preceded us. To have left their native land and taken up on our unevenly hospitable shores the cause of education of the Franco-American ethnic minority of New England was an act of courage. They had neither money nor numbers, only their faith in God and a desire to spread his Kingdom wherever the Church was hurting. Once here, their faith and courage rubbed off on everyone they met, particularly on the students with whom they lived and intermingled in a true family atmosphere. ft -Cvssumption College had had considerable influence: in the state and nation where its many graduates serve in all professions and capacities; and in the world where its influence ranges from chapels in Moscow to political circles of Alaska to other far reaching activities of graduates and priests. And its influ¬ ence on religion has expanded to in¬ clude not only the church of its Cat¬ holic foundations but also leadership in many things ecumenical — study, worship, civil rights support, to name a few. w e rejoice in our foundation and sponsorship by the Augustinians of the Assumption and in the vision of their founder, Father Emmanuel d’Alzon. The motto he proposed has become ours, “Until Christ Be Formed in You.” We humbly ask Almighty God to grant us the grace to be faithful to what we have pledged and for the courage to carry it out, both now and in the years ahead.
