This sport has come into its own only since Assumption received its university charter in l953. In the Fall of l959 our tennis team ventured to McMaster University to compete in the Eastern Canadian Intercollegiate Tennis Championships where Gary Reaume and Harold Barratt battled to the semi-final round before being defeated. The university golt team is no new comer to the athletic department. The team has stood its own against repre- sentitive teams from other Canadian universities. if A an I l i wr, slit' L .1 Gary Reaume, Finalist, Clare Hardy, Semi-Finalist. Golf Team if L. to R1 J. My Dear Students: We are so busy tailoring ourselves to our jobs and perfecting our various roles in life that we often ignore ourselves. Knowing who we are takes courage but it is the only way to live. From time to time the ultimate questions Who am l? , Where did l come from? Why am I here'? , Where am I going? , intrude themselves and demand an answer. They are disturbing and uncomfortable questions. We can and of ten do hide from them by a chaotic program of activity. We can turn on the radio or watch TV rather than submit to a silence which brings with it these inevitable and tormenting questions. Sooner or later we must face up to them. When we have answered them to our complete satisfaction, then and only then we may say we begin to be not mere ly exist. Each of us will discover that the soul demands to be unfettered by time and unconfined by space. We are made for eternal things. Let us be courageous and face the problem of being ourselves before trying to be anything else Very Rev. E C LeBel C S B President o Judo 1 .,.. L Vqq: 3 u' . This de- cision if it is to be a sound one will require your care- ful assessment of all avail- able opportunities, as well as your own potential. The Royal Canadian Air Force has always offered challenging opportunities in air crew which have at- tracted university gradu- ates from all faculties. To- day, almost without ex- ception, the officers in senior air force appoint- ments are degree men, most of whom have risen to their present positions after entering the RCAF as pilots or observers. With the expanded role, the advances being made in flying techniques and the heavier demands be- ing placed on executive officers, the RCAF now offers even a greater chal- lenge to the young man with a university back- ground. Each student or Teacher that ioins its ranks associates him- l self with all that has gone before. He is moulded by the past even as he himself moulds the fu- l ture. The campus community lives on. 4 - l So it is at Assumption. Freshmen come, graduates go. But something of the college tradition remains, for Assumption has a story far older than the oldest grad. That story lives on and grows as the university lives and expands. This story is your story. To its future chapters you will contribute as students ancl as graduates l of Assumption.
