Memini 11 Address of Welcome By Roger Robitaille Parents, Teachers, Classmates and Friends: I greet you as the President of the Class of 1936 I extend to you all a most hearty welcome to our Class Day exercises. I extend a special welcome to you, the parents of this happy group, who, by your sacrifices, your encouragement, and your inspiration, have made this day possible for us. Sometimes we have seemed inappreciative of your untiring efforts, for youth is frivolous and thoughtless; but to-day our hearts overflow with gratitude. The educated youth of to-day has every reason to be thank¬ ful for having been born at a time when there is a great variety of careers to choose from. Furthermore, he is heir to the ac¬ cumulated knowledge of centuries of civilization. Before him lies a new land of promise in which the price of success will be energy, intelligence and high enthusiasm. We rejoice because we feel that our education has been based on the noblest of principles, and that our training has instilled in our minds and hearts those sterling qualities which are necessary to succeed in our modern world. Let us, then, be filled with the spirit of the day, one of the eventful days of Commencement, a word that recalls the fact that a High School education is not an end in itself, but a preparation for life. Again, I welcome you, trusting that you will enjoy these exercises. And, Classmates, Carpe diem”, — Seize the day”.

Eh bien! pour une £ois du moins, il a menti, et c’est nous, classe de Versification 1935-1936, qui nous som- mes promis de le faire mentir et qui y avons reussi. Loin du coeur, vous! allons done! Loin des yeux, oui, par la force des cho- ses. Une reine d’Angleterre disait: si Lon m’ouvrait le coeur, on y trouverait le nom de Calais.” Si on nous ouvrait le coeur a nous, pres des noms de nos parents, des pretres qui dans nos paroisses nous prepa- rerent a la premiere communion, de nos premiers maitres qui nous initierent aux balbutiements de la langue frangaise, vous trouveriez inscrit le votre, cher et venere Pere Crescent. Ce dont un enfant se souvient avec le plus d’amour, c’est le premier sourire de sa mere. Pour nous, l’Assomption est une mere, elle est notre Alma Mater. Or, le premier sourire qu’elle daigna nous adresser, c’est sur vos levres que nous l’avons vu s’epanouir. II y a quatre ans de cela.
