Hail, seniors, ’88! 145 PIE THROWING AT ITS BEST Homecoming frenzy reached its peak with the pie throwing event at the last pep rally. We started the year with crowded classrooms, plenty of humidity, and new faces on the faculty ... international flavor surrounded us as we came to know Isa, Hermann, Javier, Freddie, and Mario ... students raised money to pay for homecoming floats ... three dismissal bells and the Effective School Movement for teachers ... Mr. Vicknair was our first Teacher of the Year” and Anne Buquet our first Student of the Year” ... Mrs. Dugas became a grandmother and planned her June retirement ... student teacher Sarah Louie” loved AHS and we loved her ... Miss Oncale said I DO and now is Mrs. Graham ... Coach Ferrell sang at football games ... what’s that in the tree in the courtyard? ... nine weeks and progress reports (I haven’t seemed to have made much progress) ... Coach Naquin is back with us in the clasroom and as athletic director ... two former faculty members, Mr. John Beck and Mr. James Hubbell, won seats on the school board ... we thank Brad for hoisting the flags each day ... Mrs. Ann Joseph and Miss Electa Fletcher subbed for Mrs. Joseph and Mr. Hadrick ... did we miss anything? here’s our best PARTING SHOTS . .. In 1987 school enrollment was up and the economy was down. Cutbacks in oil production, local shipbuilding, and state revenues produced a ripple effect that was felt throughout the parish. We made national headlines with the highest unemployment (33%). Yes, hard times” were upon us everywhere. Yet, through it all, we had no cutbacks in . . . MUSTANG SPIRIT. .. SOME DIDN'T ALONE .. SCHOOL CALENDAR SPURS US ON Nothing stopped the Mustang spirit. Football games, Mus- tang music, pep rallies, and foreign exchange students kept our minds off the op- pressive heat in the class- rooms. October gave us little relief, but homecoming antics kept the Mustang spirit going, even through a rainy home- coming game. 154 OR IN PAIRS . Thanksgiving break, home basketball games, and club picture day were welcome events in November. Merry Christmasl Santa was everywhere during the frenzy of the season. January brought semester exams, Julius Caesar and super-chilly school days.
