L 'UOrfjL l!S± M nmi 'agi 2JA D E D I C A T I 0 N v MISS ELMINA THIBAUT §r i REMEMBRANCES Several generations of Assumption High alumni can attribute some part of their professional success and enriched lives to the guidance and inspiration of Elmina Thibaut. Theme writing and quotes from Macbeth were only one facet of her unique teaching methods. Among the ideals she sought to instill in her students were a sense of values, acceptance of responsibility, and pride in one’s work. The pleasure she derived from the simple things in life unfolded in stories about “the island” (Grande Isle) and country walks in search of wild irises. Her garden, orchard, and flower beds were an integral part of her simple, natural life style. Nature’s bounty frequently became gifts to her friends. The qualities she developed as a nature lover — patience, generos- ity, and concern for others — became part of her informal guidance. Treasured memories of a friendship that evolved for nearly thirty years are too numerous to list. Any recollections will always be accompanied by the im- age of a gracious lady who was intelligent, witty, and knew the value of a sense of humor. Jane T. Mabile We fondly remember two great ladies whose long association with AHS touched many lives. Colleagues as well as best friends, they both contributed greatly to the education of several generations of Assumption High students, as well as to education itself. We mourn their untimely deaths and dedicate this book to their memory._______________________ MISS DOLORES BORDIS A TRIBUTE In the passing of Miss Dolores Bordis I have lost a great and good friend, whose encouragement, counsel and wisdom have meant so much to me over the years. Her life was the epitome of understanding, sympathy, learning, and integrity - an example worthy of emula- tion by all who cherish teaching. No one, whose privi- lege it was to know her, will soon forget her untiring devotion to youth, to education, and to humanity. We felt her loss very deeply, but some small measure of consolation may be found in the words of the poet, Walt Whitman: She is not gone. She is just away, With a cheery smile and the wave of the hand, She has wandered into an unknown land, And left us wondering how very fair that land May be, since she tarries there. A 101 point effort against arch rival ILL. Bourgeois to avenge two earlier losses high- lighted the season, in addition to having three players named all-District. I was this confidence and faith that pulled us through many trying times. I would like to thank Coach Ad- ams and all my fellow team- mates for making my senior year so special. I will carry those memories forever. Thank you all!” — Toby Ver- rette. “Contributions from each team member, whether it was larger or small, to the best of her ability, helped this year’s team become a much improved squad. Each step in the climb to success is steep. The Lady Mus- tangs basketball program is still young. I feel, however, it is only a matter of time before the Lady Mustangs are knocking at the door of success.” — Ros- lind Hebert. 129 “One thing I learned this season is how much my leadership is important. As a re- sult of being a leader, I learned that no matter how bad things turned out, I had to be there to keep the team going. We might not have been at the top point-wise, but we always had something over the other teams, and that was confidence in each oth- 130 er and togetherness.” — Moe Molliere “Winning and losing depend on what goals are established both individually and as a team. Many goals were established for our 1983-84 basketball season. For those goals reached - we have won. For those not reached - we have not lost, for we have bettered ourselves simply by having attempted them.” — Coach Stacey Adams S' A V 131 BASEBALL 132 Tyrone Sims, Barry Landry, and Eathen Landry. Adams 141 “The 1984 Girls’ Track Program saw a combi- nation of a wide variety of talents and abilities mixed together to produce a very successful sea- son. Our young ladies were able to finish no lower than 3rd in the eight track meets in which they took part. The highlight of our season would have to be our 1st Place finish in the highly acclaimed “Tiger Relays.” The outcome of this single meet was a tribute to the hard work and determination displayed by each team member throughout the season.” — Coach Sandy Fussell CROSS CO UNTR Y 1.
