Roundup ’71 Reflections Assumption High School Napoleonville, Louisiana Volume XX MARY ELIZABETH LeBLANC..................Editor MOLLIE BOUDREAUX..................Junior Editor JEANETTE CARMOUCHE-----------Business Manager SAM DIZNEY........................Photographer CONRAD BARBERA--------------------Photographer JEFFREY BOLOTTE...................Photographer NEIL GLUIDRY----------------------Photographer LOUISE ADAMS.................-.........Advisor Foreword With the passage of years Assumption High School has grown from a school with an enrollment of 159 students and a faculty of nine to a school with an enrollment of 1326 and a faculty of 70. With the small enrollment at its beginning it can easily be conceived that every student on the campus knew one another, but with the passing years and the continued increased enrollment this became an impossibility. Now, not only has student life changed but the curriculum has also. Vital curriculum changes in the past years have resulted in an ultimate en- richment of both academic and vocational fields. Assumption High School is constantly up-dating its curriculum and outlook for we cannot be satis- fied with just trying to maintain what we have. We have to anticipate the future and plan accord- ingly. The year 1970-71 marked a new era in the History of Education of Assumption Parish. The system and method of operation did not change but the structure of our educational system did. We moved from two separate high schdol systems into a unitary system by merging the two high schools as one. This, of course, brought about many problems and many of us faced the school year with some reservation. Now that the year is complete and we look back we feel the transition was quite successful and this success can be attributed to the general acceptance of the public, the maturity, dedication and professional attitude of the faculty, and to a very understanding and capable student body. Yes, the passage of the years have changed Assumption High School, but its scopes and aims have not changed and that is tp provide our pupils with both the skills and the attitude necessary to be a part of society. We look forward to the future with great anticipation. 2 Reflections of Dedication........................4 Opening...........................5 Honors...........................18 Activities.......................30 Athletics........................64 Organizations....................78 Faculty.........................120 Classes.........................138 Advertisements..................214 Alma Mater Our Alma Mater, Alma Mater, We will always give thee praise. Among Betsy's duties and activities were Student Council President, an active member of the National Honor Society, First maid of the homecoming court. Editor of the ROUNDUP, and more or less school coordinator. Both students and faculty are very proud to be able to call Betsy Miss Assumption. Devoting most of his time to the Student Council, for which he was parliamentarian for two years, the F.F.A., for which he won many contests - local and state, and the 4-H and National Honor Society, Nicky was a student who never grew tired of his duties. Each year all juniors and seniors are required to attend this seminar. Mr. Joe Achee, the head of the Social Studies Department, along with the help of many other people, organized this program and succeeded in fulfilling the purpose of the seminar, which is to make the students aware of the dangers, tech- niques, and goals of the Communist party. The guest speaker, Mrs. Gracilia Pujals, who is a former resident of Cuba, told the students of the Communist life as she knew it. Mr. Raymond Aucoin then briefly explained all the divisions of government. The program closed with all students participating in various discussion groups. 34 Sophomore Dance In order to raise money for their Junior-Senior Prom, the sophomores sponsored a dance.
