THE ROUNDUP 1970 NAPOLEONVILLE, LOUISIANA VOLUME XIX MARY E. LeBLANC Junior Editor SAM DIZNEY FLOYD LaBARRE Photographers JANE STEVENS Editor BARBARA RICHARD Business Manager MISS LOUISE ADAMS Advisor I FOREWORD We are always hearing people talk about times: good times, bad times, trying times, changing times. With all the viewpoints only one fact is evident. The times are what we make them. We at Assumption High have had our share of good times, as this annual shows. We have not had many bad times because we are able to face situations maturely. Trying times we have had but a positive approach and willing help kept these to a minimum. Chang- ing times we face confidently with the know- ledge that we anticipate and plan effectively to meet our problems before they arise. We accept the fact that we are part of the times and intend to make our contribution toward improving them. 2 TABLE OF CONTENTS OPENING 4 HONORS 18 ATHLETICS 26 ACTIVITIES 42 ORGANIZATIONS 82 CLASSES 118 FACULTY 168 ADVERTISEMENTS 184 INDEX 198 R O U N D U P 70 Presents TIME ALMA MATER Our Alma Mater, Alma Mater, We will always give thee praise. Moves on: nor all your Piety nor Wit Shall lure it Sack to cancel half a Line, Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it. MARK CHENEVERT Mark Chenevert could be described as a silent worker. His quiet manner and un- assuming ways pervaded in whatever he strove to do. Like the average high school student, however, Mark was interested in several school activities. One such activity in which Mark participated was the science fair projects sponsored by the Science- Math Club at A.H.S. Another of Mark’s interests was photography, and he showed his willingness to help by doing yearbook pictures for THE ROUNDUP staff. It is because of his efforts in these endeavors that we dedicate this page to his memory. 5 b FOR COMMUNICATIONS, 7 8 ACTIVITIES, 9 II WE HAVE TIMES 12 13 f MOMENTS OF SADNESS . . . 15 AND WEEKS I 16 17 Characterized by her loveliness and con- geniality , Bonnie Hebert was a favorite among her acquaintances. Besides working on the Student Council for four years, she also served as National Honor Society presi- dent in her senior year. Membership in the Pep Club, Fillies, and THE ROUNDUP Staff diversified her interest and efforts. In spite of all her duties and responsibili- ties, Bonnie maintained a 4.0 average. Her magnetic personality, spirit, and will- ingness to give of herself to her school un- derscored her popularity. It is especially fitting, therefore, that Bonnie reigns as MISS A.H.S. 20 21 Intelligence, initiative, friendliness and gentle ways characterize Tommy Costanza's personality. His never-exhausting energy was welcome in the activities of the Na- tional Honor Society, Student Council, and Foreign Languages Club. As a mark of his leadership. Tommy was chosen as President of the senior class. Despite his small stat- ure , Tommy has devotedly given himself to sports, becoming a four-year letterman in golf, a two-year letterman in football, and a one-year letterman in basketball. Tommy received the Joseph Barbera Sr. Award not only for his active participation in sports, but also maintained a high scho- lastic average. Tommy is truly a deserv- ing MR. Under the capable leadership of President Anne Bourgeois and her fellow officers and members, the Student Council for 1969-70 suc- cessfully completed many campaigns. Throughout this entire year it has devoted most of its time and energy to establishing a more united student body. It has strived to get more people involved in their school and com- munity life. The Student Council has tried to establish a better faculty-student relationship by sponsoring things such as: Teacher Appreciation Day, teacher vs. student basketball and volleyball games, and by making favors for the teachers on special occasions. Some other projects un- dertaken this year were as follows: presenting a skit on Veterans' Day and Christmas, having a student exchange, sponsoring dances and hav- ing a field day. As one of their biggest proj- ects, the Student Council held a clean-up cam- paign throughout the parish. However, this year our Student Council not only took an active part on the local level, but also on the District and State level, too. This year they were elected to the presidency of both the South Central Association of Student Councils and the Louisiana Association of Stu- dent Councils. Executive Branch from Left to Right: K. As our senior year comes to an end, we begin to reflect back on some of our past high school experiences. We'll long remember the happiness of Freshman Week, the excitement of the sophomore year, the success of the Junior-Senior Prom, and the joy of receiving our class rings. Perhaps we have made some of our most important friends and have gotten to know and respect some of our best teachers. As graduation nears, we begin to think seriously of what we will be doing in the future and what it has in store for us. How far we go up the ladder in life depends upon the individual and we begin to see the real meaning of In Ourselves Our Future Lies.
