ADMINISTRATION SPIRITUAL ATHLETICS ACTIVITIES UNDERCLASSMEN SENIORS ADVERTISERS DEDICATION OF THE CRUSADER Amongst the students of Assumption High School, there are many who, true to the teaching of the Basilian Fathers and to the motto of their school, have striven to achieve goodness, discipline, and knowledge. These, who have placed the honor and reputation of Assumption as their foremost ideal in High School Life, are real Crusaders. To these, the Crusaders of Mary, men of Assump¬ tion, we dedicate this publication. The Staff Page One PATRONS Mr. and Mrs. H. Allen Mr. and Mrs. F. Beauchamp Mr. and Mrs. L. Blonde Mr. W. Interspersed through these pages you will find, in short paragraphs, an explanation of this Life within us. (On the divider pages, you will note sketches repre¬ senting channels by which this Life comes to us—the Sacraments.) We believe that any record of life at Assumption should include some references to this higher Life—without which all our activity would be much ado about nothing , but which, remembered, makes us scorn to change our state with kings . ABOUT THE THEME . . . Here at Assumption there is abundant evidence of activity in many spheres—a constant round of academic endeavour, with attendant assignments and exams—plenty of healthy exercise and keen competition in athletics—a well balanced program of social events and all the rest. This we have recorded for you in the following pages. A Message from Bishop Cody MOST REVEREND JOHN C. CODY, D.D. Bishop of London My Dear Graduates: May the following lines composed by an Australian veteran of World War I and entitled My Life is in God ' s Hands , help to keep you mindful of your Providential mission in life, and ever docile to the inspirations of grace: Not till the loom is silent And the shutters cease to ply, Shall God unroll the canvas And explain the reason why The dark threads are as needful In the weaver ' s skilful hand, As the threads of gold and silver In the pattern He has planned. With every good wish and a special blessing for this centennial year ot London Diocese My life is but a weaving Between my God and me; I cannot choose the colors He worketh steadily. Oft times He weaveth sorrow And I in foolish pride Forget! He sees the upper And I, the under side. Devotedly yours in Christ, Bishop of London, f Page Four fln Hirnunnnm To the memory of Father Thomas Vahey of the Congregation of St. Basil and former member of the staff at Assumption who died on December 4th, 1955. God grant that he may quickly enter into the reward of his priestly labors. years, beginning September 1956, there will be no freshmen High School boarders at Assumption. All the present High School boarders, however, will have the opportunity of completing the High School course at Assumpiton. The High School students then, in the next few years, are asked to share with us the inconveniences of moving to a new and better site. May God bless this separation of High School and University campuses with better work in each department. We solicit your prayers for this intention. Very Rev. E. C. LeBel, C.S.B. Page Six t r t A fr i A Message from Fr. Cullen This is the end—yet it really is the beginning. Your short stay at Assumption measured your change from boyhood to young manhood. Now you begi n to live the life of an adult, with the duties and responsibilities of that state. You have advanced in age. How different you are in body from that young lad who came here a few short years ago. You have grown in wisdom. How different are the minds of these wise Seniors from the timid Freshmen of four years ago. You have developed, too, in grace. Each morning your priest-teachers ascended the altar and begged the Almighty God that you would act as He wished, in the state of grace ful¬ filling your vocation of student. If your model during these years was the Boy-Christ who advanced in age, and wisdom, and grace, before God and man, you are our shining example of the effects of a Catholic education. Assuming this, we are proud to praise you as an Assumption graduate. In your days of the future, keep your eyes on your model of your High School days, Jesus Christ, and continue to advance in wisdom and grace. Doing this you will capture the peace and happiness of Christ ' s children to carry with you through life crnd eternity. Page Seven - Fr. Cullen ' s Secretaries Left to right— Mr. E. Vadnais, C.SJJ.
