I V A R S I T Y This year our Junior Raiders showed all the outstanding spirit and drive typical of an Assumption team. Although playing only exhibition games the team, mostly frosh and sophomores, picked up much needed experience and learned cooperation and good sportsmanship, the foremost qualities of a championship team. Under the superb mastery of Fr. J. Higgins, assisted by Messrs. Mark Wyatt and Larry Connerton, the boys played as a team and won as a team. The squad, led on the field by co-captains Jack LeBlanc and Norm Rice, credited themselves with three wins and one loss during the season ' s play. The boys looked sharp at the beginning of the season and proved that they would be hard to beat because they left the opponents scoreless in their first two games. The only defeat, a game played against an older and more experienced senior team was nothing to be ashamed of because the boys took everything thrown at them and fought back with terrific zest, only to lose by a small margin. However the lads in purple didn’t lose their morale and in the next and last game we saw a well conditioned and spirited twelve as they walked over the opposition in a one-sided contest which was their highest scoring game. Fr. Higgins was now convinced that all his drilling had not been in vain. Strong on offence, rough on defense, the 1952 reserves were a powerful and determined team and should bring much brilliance and dash to the varsity team in future years. FR. HIGGINS C.S.B.
