PURPLE SHIELD PLAN 614 MAIN 322-4438 79 Petersen Harned Von Maur Davenport, Iowa To the Seniors: “Hey, you can do it, boys, you’re Knights!” Nine seconds left in the Homecoming game. Our ball, nine yards and one touchdown behind, We were solid. Standing as a wall With waves of sound rolling out of us. We were united; court and crowd, Team and teachers. Victory was ours! we lost. Will we remember only losing? -Cold set facts- Winning or losing The parade The cafeteria as a castle 2:05 Mondays 4:30 detentions Free days on shared time These remain, aided by yearbooks, Programs and statistics. But the feelings, the things you Can’t touch or record, slip by. But they were there: The spirit of seeing the band triumphant from Canada, The spirit behind a rally. Misspelling Assumpton along with Father Speigal, The ache of stuffing napkins on a half-finished float from a garage floor, and The mayhem when an intercepted pass defeated West. When we leave Assumption this year we will be as knights from Camelot riding into a world where chivalry is said to have died. We will leave high school, a kingdom in which seniors were ... kings. Like sane Don Quixote, we must fight our share of windmills, set forth on our share of crusades. Dubbed with a diploma and thinly armed with ever-risting knowledge, we will sally forth. “Hey, we can do it world, we were Knights!” -Joan Sunderbruch—
