School Board School Board members pictured at right include: Frank Roost, Joe Sharp, Joe Kanarick, Rita DeHaven, Fr. Deaver, Richard Loosbrock, and Carl Lukkes. Below is a letter taken from the Sunday bulletin concerning the new Board of Religious Education. Dear Parishoners: Recent actions of the Parish Council have resulted in the employment of Mrs. Fran Brandon as a Religious Education Co- ordinator to assist each of us in broadening our own religious education, and therefore, to be able to better educate our chil- dren in our faith. To better inform you, the following is a summary of the action taken in reaching this goal: On May 9 our parish elected a new nine-member Board of Religious Education to function as a committee of the Parish Council. This new committee, under the chairmanship of Bill Stewart, has acted promptly in beginning to develop new pro- grams for our parish. On May 17 Father Chamberlain, Diocesan Director of Religious Education, and Sister Fides met with this committee and interested parishoners to suggest possible guidelines to follow in setting up a religious education program. Mrs. Fran Brandon applied for the position and was interviewed by the board. Her qualifications are: Graduate of a Catho- lic High School, Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education and Combined Sciences from Edgewood College of Sacred Heart with additional work in theology, psychology and philosophy. She is currently completing requirements at Chadron State College for her Master’s Degree. Mrs. Brandon has accepted this position at a salary of $6,500 plus housing at the Newman Center. Some confusion seems to have developed regarding Mr. Brandon’s employment by the parish. Mr. Brandon, at the present time, is under contract with the Hay Springs Schools, however, Hugh will be assisting his wife with the program during evening hours and weekends. Consequently, we, the Parish Council and the Board of Religious Education, will refer to Mr. and Mrs. Brandon as the co- ordinators of the program. Mr. and Mrs. Brandon will be working directly under the Board of Religious Education in implementing the programs they plan. Their duties will include assisting volunteer teachers in preparation for their classes, help in selecting materials for the program, assist Father Deaver in preparing and conducting pre-marriage conferences, provide a telephone answering service for Father Deaver, and additional duties as the program developes. We believe that through the mutual efforts of the parishoners, the Board of Religious Education, and Mr. and Mrs. Brandon, we have the ingredients for a highly successful religious education program that can result in a stronger faith community. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE ST. PATRICK’S PARISH COUNCIL
