f  N Assumption Academy Chadron, Nebraska Chapel Pictured above le the main altar in the chapel at the Academy. The new bronze tabernacle, a gift made in thanks- giving for a special favor, was installed last fall. The chaoel is the center of spiritual activities st Assumption Academy. In it each weekday morning the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is offered. In it many of the students receive Holy Communion frequently. In it the whole student body gathers on feast days to close school with Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament. In it, too, the Sodality holds its spiritual meeting on the first Friday of each month. During October tne students gather in the chapel for the traditional crowning of Christ the King. The Sodality holds its annual ceremonies of instal- lation of officers and reception of new members here. Often, during each day of the school year, the students make short visits to Our Lord in tne Blessed Sacrament. The chapel ie a busy place during the three days of re- treat in January. Before each first Friday confessions are heard here for the convenience of the students. First Saturday devotions in honor of Our Lady of Fatima are also held in the chapel. This is really the most important place in the Academy and the place the students will re- member longest because of the many hallowed memories connected with it. Father Raymond Miles Superintendent Assumption Academy Is very fortunate to have Father Raymond Miles, the pastor of Saint Patrick's Church, as superintendent. Father Miles Is Intensely Interested In everything that concerns the welfare of both teachers and students. During the past two years he has supervised extensive repair work and has made numerous improvements In the Academy building. We extend to Father Miles our deep gratitude for his part In making the 1943-50 school year so happy and successful. Saint Patrick's Cnurch Chadron, Nebraska Ded ica+ion To all the 91 stara of Mercy who have taught at Assumption Academy elnce Its opening In 1924 and In particular to the Slaters who compose the faculty at present the students of the Academy dedicate this 19S0 edition of GOLDEN LEAVES with the fervent hope that they may lead lives worthy of their splendid teachers. % Father Raymond Miles Superintendent Director of Athletics Director of Sodality Sister Mary Peter, R.S.M. Ask any Junior, their clese is tne best In the whole schooll Now, now, before you begin to compare us with the rest of the classes, look at our record for the past two years. And this year we have continued to live up to that record. Our all-school party was given on the spur of the moment, but was lots of fun any- way. In January we sponsored a luncheon. May brought our crown- ing achievements—the banquet and prom. We think you will all agree that prom day was one to remember. Don't get us wrong—parties are not the only things we give; this year we finally purchased the fire bell, which we had worked for last year, and had It installed. On the spiritual side, Patricia Gibson served as vice-prefect of the Sodality and David Chaee as chairman of the Mission Committee. Nearly everyone In our class was a member of a 5 Club. Patricia was also chair- man of Our Lady's Committee. David Chase and Richard Rlnker lettered In football, and all the boys played basketball. Two Junior girls were cheerleaders—Wilma Hllllgae and Bernadette Shlnker. Winifred Connelly, Wilma Hllllgas, and Patricia GlDson were In the Glee Club. Bernadette was our class president, Darold our vice-president, and Patricia our secretary and treas- urer. Sister Helen Marie has been our sponsor for three years, and we hope that she can be next year, too. r i H I 1 homore s Back Row: Front Row: %« Darlene Clark, Patricia Crandell, James Ersklne, Richard Perllnakl, Edward Semroeka. Oenevleve Esquivel, Patricia Wood, Delorls Mills, Sarajane Connelly, Betty Peters, Robert Rlnker. Foolish but V i S e Last September we Sophomores began our second year of high school. At our first class meeting we elected Edward Semroeka president, Patricia Wood vice-president, and Patricia Crandell secretary-treasurer. These officers have worked hard with the rest of the class to make this a great year. Our biggest financial project was to raise money to purchase a gift for the school. Our biggest social under- taking was the Halloween party we gave for everyone In the school. We Sopnoraores have contrlDuted our share to the school activities. Two of the boys played football and three basket' ball. Richard Perllnskl was chosen an all-conference end at the close of his first football season. James Ersklne was our very capable reporter for ASSUMPTION TIMES. Most of the girls In our class sang In the Slee Club and Choir, and we had at least one name on the honor roll each quarter. Most of us were received Into the Sodality this year after a long and hard period of probation. It has been a wonderful year and one we will never forget. h 'i ,1 i [f ' 1 1 ' r Freshmen Back Row: Sharon Farr, Richard Coleolno, Sherry Olrmann, Joan Konreth, Doris Wegner, Bernard Arthur. E xcelsion The Freshmen have taken a very active part this year In all the activities or the school. To begin, Richard Colaclno was our one big contribution to the football team and Is considered one of the team's big hopes for the future. Daniel Konreth and Richard Colaclno played basketball. Most of the Freshmen girls sang In the Choir and Olee Club, and nearly all the Freshmen took Dramatics. Our class made the honor roll every quarter and was always well’represented. Janice Babcock and Richard Colaclno were our reporters for ASSUMPTION TIMES. We possess the school's champion bell- ringer, Jerome Martin, who rang every bell on the spilt second all year long. We Freshmen are proud of our record and hope we can keep It untarnished for the next three years. 7 r pi I Grad e s Beck Row: Paul Arthur, Nyle Mills, James Cassedy, Leland Quinn.
