Aspermont High School Aspermont, Texas 79502 Volume XXXII in CHOOL-HIGHSCHOOL-HIGH IGHSCHOOL'HIGH BRADFORD-LONG ARE BEST ALL AROUND Brenda Bradford and Steve Long were elected by the high school faculty as the best all around students at A.H.S. They were chosen because of their personalities, personal accomplishments, academic ability, as well as their school pride and Brenda is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Bradford. She is a member of the band and annual staff. She has received many Who's Who awards as well as being an honor student for the past four Steve is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Long. He is a member of the football and track teams as well as Student Council President. Steve was elected Wittiest boy in school for two years in a row, and is also the Senior Class Vice President. WALKER-LONG ARE MR. AND MISS A.H.S. Steve Long and Kim Walker were chosen by the students as Mr. and Miss A.H.S. Kim is active in several areas such as Student Council, Annual Staff, and has been a cheerleader for the past three years. She was elected Most Spirited for two years and is Most Beautiful this year. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.O. Walker. Steve is active in FFA, football, track, and is Student Council President. He was also elected Best All Around by the faculty. Steve is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Long. Kim is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.O. Walker and is a senior. Wallie, also a senior, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Grady Salazar. LONG- RIMES ARE MOST COURTEOUS Chosen as the two most courteous students at AHS this year were Melinda Rimes and Steve Long. Melinda, a junior, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rimes. Steve, a senior, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Long. 28 TRAMMELL— RIMES HAVE BEST PERSONALITIES Melinda Rimes and Britt Trammell were chosen as the two students with the best personalities at AHS. Both students are obviously friendly, cheerful and ready to lend a helping hand. Melinda, a junior, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rimes. Britt, a senior, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Trammell. GIBSON— MARTIN ARE FLIRTIEST Elected as the two flirtiest students as AHS were Regina Gibson and Roland Martin. This makes two years in a row for Regina to be elected to this honor. Regina, a sophomore, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Gibson. Roland, a freshman, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Martin. 29 BIGGS— HAWKINS ARE MOST FRIENDLY Chosen as AHS's Most Friendly students this year were Mary Lea Hawkins and Kelly Biggs. Mary Lea, a senior, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bo Hawkins. Kelly, a senior, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Biggs. PARKER— LOUIS ARE MOST TALENTED Linda Parker and Marvin Louis were elected as the two most talented students at AHS. Linda, a senior, is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alton Parker. Marvin, a junior, is the son of Mrs. Clemmie Louis. 30 ELLISON- LONG ARE WITTIEST Tammy Ellison and Steve Long were chosen as the wittiest students at AHS. Tammy, a junior, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Ellison. Steve, a senior, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Long. WALKER— MC DOWELL ARE MOST SPIRITED Chosen as AHS's most spirited students this year were Kim Walker and Gerry McDowell. Kim, a senior, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.O. Walker. Gerry, a senior, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Orthell McDowell. 31 THIGPEN— WALKER ARE SENIOR FAVORITES Elected as senior class favorites were Jeff Thigpen and Kim Walker. Kim is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.O. Walker and Jeff is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Thigpen. HILL—HAWKINS ARE JUNIOR FAVORITES Glenda Hill and Ben Hawkins were elected as junior favorites. Glenda is the daughter of Mrs. Yvonne Snow and Ben is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bronc Hawkins. 32 M r3 COCHRAN— KLUTING ARE SOPHOMORE FAVORITES Elected sophomore favorites were Kathy Cochran and Mark Kluting. Kathy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Cochran and Mark is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R.D. Kluting. SWINK—FARLEY ARE FRESHMAN FAVORITES Jodi Swink and Robert Farley were elected freshman favorites. The 1980 Hornet football team finished the season with an 8-2 record. The Hornets lost a crucial 14-14 game to Knox City on first downs that killed the district hopes. They showed strong determination in bouncing from that to defeat Jayton, then lost to Rule. Marvin Louis broke his old rushing record and set a new one at 1493 yards. He was named to the second team All Area. Gerry McDowell was named to the second team All State both as defensive end and tight end. He was also named third team All Area. Dana, a senior is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mrazek. She has been a cheerleader for three years. Gerry McDowell was elected by his teammates as Football Hero. Gerry, a senior, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Orthell McDowell. Gerry played both offensive and defensive end and was named to the second team all state, as well as all area and all district. He will play football for McMurry College this fall. HAWKINS—THIGPEN CHOSEN MR., MISS BASKETBALL Elected by their respective teams as Mr. and Miss Basketball were Mary Lea Hawkins and Jeff Thigpen. Mary Lea, a senior, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bo Hawkins and has played basketball six years. She was named to the all district team this year. Jeff, a senior, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Thigpen and has also played basketball for six years. This time set a new school record—the previous record was 43.5. They placed second behind Snook, who ran a 42.6. The program consisted of Alicia Reyes as Master of Ceremonies, Melinda Rimes and Bridget Meador provided entertainment. Tanya Lawerence and Bridget Meador told of their trip to the State Meeting in San Antonio. Kim Walker; Sweetheart The FFA Parent-Member Banquet showed how much the chapter progressed in the past year. This year our Greenhand Quiz team won district and placed second in Area. Mary Lea Hawkins won the Double Mountain District in Public Speaking and placed second at Area. Kim Walker was our chapter Sweetheart, who then went on to win District Sweetheart and she competed at Area also. 77 Jr-Sr. Banquet The Jr. class of 1981 gave the seniors a very nice banquet this year. It was decorated nicely and a wishing well was the highlight of the decorations. The Junior class worked very hard decorating for this occasion. Our speaker was Rev. Elmer Ward. He told many jokes and made us feel right at home with his warm sense of humor. All and all the banquet was a success. ■■■■■■■■I 78 All Sports Banquet The Hornet Boosters sponsored the All Sports Banquet, so that all athletes, could be recognized for the outstanding job they did competing this year. All of the coaches spoke and told a few jokes. They were also presented with plaques for their help. Ivy Swink was President of the Boosters this year. 79 80 81 FHA—FFA STAY ACTIVE The FFA and FHA stayed active all year. Both groups had their annual banquet and many other activities, including attending area and state conventions. FFA Awards received were: Kim Walker— Diversified Beef Production; Alana Fincher—Ag Mechanics; David Fincher—Sheep Production; Mary Lea Hawkins—Pig Production Public Speaking. 82 STOCK SHOW WAS A SUCCESS Many kids entered the annual stock show this year. Some learned quick while others weren't so quick. Some luggage was lost on the way which had to be back tracked.
