£venynee t State Bay KEITH AUSMAN Delegate from the Asotin High School to Evergreen Boys' State held on the campus of Pacific Lutheran University at Tacoma, Washington the week of June 12, 1961. We, the citizens of Evergreen Boys' State, in order to fulfill the objectives of the American Legion, to learn the obligation of citizenship, to make decisions in line with reason, to reject and to choose leadership, to practice the administration of government, and to establish the ideas of American Democracy in our minds and habits, do ordain and establish this Constitution for Evergreen Boys' State. Girls' State is a practical application of Americanism and good citizenship. Its purpose is to provide citizenship training for girls of high school age in every constituent Department of the American Legion Auxiliary; to afford them an opportunity to live together as self-governing citizens; to inform them a-bout the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship, in order that they may understand and participate in the functioning of their government; and to help them grasp the meaning of some of the responsibilities which they must assume when they become adults .
