4 DEDICATION : DART STAFF OF NINETEEN NDRED AND SIXTY-SEVEN DICATES THIS YEARBOOK MR. WAYNE BEHRENDT R ALL HIS HELP. INTEREST. D PATIENCE Ashtabula High School Co-Editors Lana Mead Lois Meola Adviser Wayne Behrendt Alma Mater Come all along, sing we a song of Ashtabula High Oh worthy art thou of fame; Where age and youth have sought the truth As the years roll by Beloved is thy glorious name. Ashtabula, Ashtabula, Hail to thee, our dear old High School. CHORUS Oh, Ashtabula High School Our Alma Mater dear, We serve the state, our Motto. Thy name we love to hear; Oh, may we ever prosper Our hearts best wish for thee— Oh, Ashtabula High School is for prosperity. 3 School Days School-days, school-days, dear old Golden Rule days, Readin' and 'riling' and 'rithmelic Taught to the tune of a hick'ry stick. -Will D. Cobb School-Days 5 ABULA 10 Making of a Graduate Hopes So much time is spent Waiting for tomorrow—so soon It is yesterday. —M. Hewins II A Face ny Words Faces are as legible as books, only with these circumstances to recommend them our perusal, that they ore read in much less time, ond are much less likely to deceive us. —Lavoter President Denny Nordquest Vice-President Ron Herron Treasurer Kathy Dascoli ft Hola, Any! Ana Maria Pena, an exchange student from Angol, Chile, spent her senior year studying at AHS. Any, as she likes to be called, makes her second home with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Tittle and Lorene. Her own family in Chile consists of her parents, one brother, two sisters, her grandmother, one dog, and two cats. Asked her opinion of American boys and girls. Any replied, In Chile boys and girls are quieter. Boys here act older then they really are. I like it here best because they seem to have more personality and it is easier to make friends. Any gives lorene a few pointers on guitar playing. Any and her American family, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Tittle and Lorene, look over a booklet on Chile. To the memory of Edward Adley who died on November 28, 1966, we dedicate the senior section. During his high school years, he participated two years in basketball and four years in football and was a member of Varsity A. He is sadly missed by all who knew him. Death be not proud, though some have called thee Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so; For those whom thou think'st thou doest overthrow Die not, poor Death; nor yet can'st thou kill me. One short sleep past we wake eternally. And Death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die! Then someone shouted Get Uthe! The playful seniors turned into a wild mob as they surrounded Bill and in a mad rage ripped off first one shoe and then the other and tossed both into the hands of the shoe-thirsty crowd! Bill ran panic-stricken to the door and was cut off within inches of freedom by the quick thinking Bill Rennick who dragged Uthe into the center of the crowd again. Then another cry and Bill was able to see his fen foes. Meanwhile, Lana Mead turned one shoe over to Randy Caruso who, with a mighty heave, placed it on the roof of AHS. The other shoe was placed behind the lamp by Tom Chubb and Denny Fisher. Before the cry of Get the shirt sent the mob after Bill again, the crowd was brought back to reality by the sound of the bell. Superintendent Showing a fine quality of leadership and direction of the Ashtabula Area City Schools is Dr. Roger Beitler. We at AHS have appreciated his two years of service in the system. 84 Mitt Henrietta McKinley Mr. Charles Meisfer Mr. Richard Povolino 85 Principal Responsibilities of administration and supervision at Ashtabula High School rest upon its principal, Mr. Maurice E. Rowley. Completing seventeen years of service, Mr. Rowley has always taken time out from his busy schedule to lend a helping hand to those who have needed it. Assistant Principal Right-hand man to Mr. Rowley is Mr. Robert Schminky. Well-qualified to carry out his duties in office procedure and supervision of student activities, Mr. Schminky was principal of West Junior High before coming to AHS in 1965. Ashtabula High School appreciates the services he renders. 86 Counselors Advising students on personal and school problems are our counselors Mr. E. I. Gephart, Mrs. Mildred Endres, and Mr. Anthony Chiacchiero. Senior counselor, Mr. Gephart, has given suggestions and advice which should help in making many decisions throughout our lives. In their third years as counselors, Mrs. Endres and Mr. Chiacchiero have directed the underclassmen in preparation for their coming years. ATHLETICS DIRECTOR Completing his first year as AHS athletic director is Mr. Randolph Pope. Originally a teacher of biology and general science, he now teaches only biology. Of all his many activities as athletics director, perhaps the best-known is the selling of his famous Panther cushions. The warm and overwhelming applause accorded him on each appearance at assemblies is evidence of how Mr. Pope stands with the student body. His frequent smile and friendliness will long be remembered. 88 Secretaries Taking care of many office duties are the school secretaries. Performing a fine job in keeping things running smoothly at AHS are Mrs. Belle Stewart, Mrs. Sara Lengyel, Mrs. Coranna Graham, and Mrs. Betty Renn. Mrs. Betty Renn Mrs. Belle Stewort 89 Doing an important job in maintaining AHS and providing hot lunches for students, but rarely appreciated for their duties, are custodial workers and the cafeteria employees. The Dart Staff would like to take this space to express their gratitude to all those people who made this yearbook possible. Without their support and loyalty it would have been impossible to turn out a publication such as the 1967 Dart. Without professional help from the companies we work with, the book would have been much more difficult for us to produce. Our most sincere thanks are extended to The American Yearbook Company, who printed our yearbook; to Mr. Peter Prentner, faithful representative of the company, who assisted us with the technicalities that make up a good annual; and to Mr. Arthur Gress of Superior Camera Shop, who aided us in photography work. There are many others who contributed to the making of the book, people whom we have not mentioned. To them we also extend our gratitude. We realize that there are mistakes in this book. We tried to eliminate as many as possible. We are sorry for those that escaped our notice. Composing a yearbook isn’t the easiest thing to do. Each time it seemed we would never make the deadline. Nerves were on edge as the time was running out and we were still short by several pages. Through all this, however, we did keep the yearbook foremost in our minds, and, now that it is finally finished, we are very proud of it. The 1967 Dart Staff hopes that this yearbook meets with your approval too.
