Commanding fficer Captain Carl E. ynn, Jr. US a Capta inWynn attended Memphis State University from 1948-51. He was commissioned an Ensign and desig- nated a Naval Aviator in 1953 after completing the NAVCAD program. His first assignment was the Fighter Squadron 83 at Naval Air Station, Oceana, Va. He then served with the Advanced Training Command at Naval Air Station, Memphis as a jet transitional flight instructor. After attending General Line School in Monterey, Calif. , Captain Wynn served in Fighter Squadron 151 aboard the USS Coral Sea fCVA -43j. In 1963 he reported aboard the USS Midway QCVA -41J as Carrier Controlled Approach Officer. From 1965-7 he attended the Naval Officer's Postgraduate School receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. In 1967 he attended the Armed Forces Staff College, Norfolk, Va. From 1968-70 Captain Wynn served as executive and com- manding officer of Fighter Squadron 96, twice deployin to Vietnam aboard the carriers Enterprise QCVAN-655 and America QCVA-661. He next attended the National War College in Washington D.C. In 1971 he earned his Master's Degree in International Affiars from George Washington University. Captain Wynn then reported to the USS John Kennedy QCVA-671 in 1971 as operations and later executive officer. From 1973 to 1975 Captain Wynn served as Executive Assistant to the Naval Inspector General in Washington D.C. He reported aboard the Ashtabula in October 1975 as Commanding Officer. Captain Wynn has earned the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Numerous Air Medals, the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat V and various other service medals. Captain Wynn is married to the former Dot Scott of Fayetteville, Tennessee. They have three children, Carl III, Derek, and Leigh Ann. 8 E rss .
