ASHLEY SCHOOL BAND The band is composed of 50 high school and grade school members this year. The band is a very proud organization this year because we have new uniforms. The uniforms consist of hats, coats, and trousers. The parents and townspeople helped us pay for them. The band has added a few new members this year. It is still going through a period of rebuilding. Only three of the experienced will gradu- ate this year. Rehearsal time is spent mostly on drill work, preparing for basketball games and concerts. Separate instrumental classes are held and solo lessons are given. The performances the band has given have been, playing for Teach- er's Institute, and combining with Carlyle, Nashville, and Sandoval in giving Tri-County Music Festivals. There are four festivals a year. One festival is held at each school. At the Ashley concert the performance was broadcast over WCNT-FM. This is the first broadcast of this type in this area. These festivals were started instead of going to music contest. We also have a Spring Concert. The band is to have an exchange program with Marissa sometime in the Spring. The instrumental solos and ensembles are: Ensembles, Hungry- Five, consisting of Tom Woodroome, Bassg Ivan Pitchford, Tromboneg Joe Pitchford, Trumpetg Phyllis Bradley and Inez Stephens, Clarinets. Flute Duet, Emma Lou Stezekorn and Shirley Wade. Trumpet Duet, Terry Kretz and Joe Pitchford. Solos: Tom Woodroome, Bassg Ivan Pritchford, Tromboneg Inez Stephens, Saxaphone. The officers of the band are, Librarian, Jane Peeckg Business Mana- ger, Inez Stephens. 'TW IRLERS The twirling team consists of 13 high school girls and 10 grade school girls. Our twirling team twirl at the basketball games. We make the letter of the opposing team and the A for Ashley. The twirling duet twirl at the Tri-County Concerts. The Drum-Majorette is Nadine Wolfe. The Drum-Majorette Assis- tant is Inez Stephens. CHORUS The A.T.H.S. Chorus consists of 42 members. The chorus hasn't performed very much this year due to the sound- proofing of the music room. The chorus is to perform in the Music Depart- ment's Spring Concert. The chorus pianists are Nadine Wolfe, Charlotte Ann Hagebush, and Inez Stephens. The soloists from our chorus this year are: Charlotte Hagebush, Jane Peeck, and Dorothy Szatkowski. Jane Peeck is Chorus Librarian. r Paul E. Daniels is director of the entire Music Department.
