Senior Prophecy One day as I was working feverishly in my laboratory ftrying to nnd a way to prevent frecklesh, I hastily mixed the contents of two test tubes, .... and a great explosion occurred. And what to my amazed eyes did appear but many small dancing balls of fire. As I sat and watched in amazement the balls began to take the shape of people. At my secoiiilbglance I was assured that the people were my classmates from A.T. .'. Then the first ball revealed to me the image of Ethel Mae Newcomb who was dancing at Club Paramount with thousands of people watching her. As the first glow faded from sight, a second appeared. This was Adeline Nadolski who had been such a shy little girl in school. What should she be doing! . . . but standing in a cage, surrounded by lions. Yes--strange as it seems-Adeline had grown up to be a lion tamer. The next figure I saw was Marie McKinzie who was working in the main office of Benson's Mink Farm and whose picture should be setting on her desk but Charles . Leaving Marie, I saw two other figures. Charlotte Cameron and Duane Briesacker. Charlotte and Duane are both very popu- lar-Charlotte for her excellent modeling and Duane for his paintings of her. The next glowing flame showed the silhouette of Nelson Draege sit- ting at a desk. He is the owner of Richview's Toothpick Factory and a little blonde is his favorite secretary. Then I saw two other people-Mart lyn Someske and Carl Udarholt being swarmed by admirers-Carl, due to his manly physique has just starred in a jungle picture and Marilyn was his leading lady. A neatly clothed block picture now approached-this was Kenneth Conley, better known throughout Southern Illinois as Reverend Conley. He was earnestly working on his sermon for the evening. He is-also a great writer and the author of Evils of Flossie Pringdinglef' so I see Kenneth became quite successful in his latter years. Then my vision was attracted by Junior Deering and Bill Evans who were farming their land. But Bill's main interest is not farn1ing-but-- Nadine Wolf. Seems as though Nadine agrees with him too. The next ball of fire brought Wilma Smith into view. She was wrting a letter to a cer- tain Gene and has also written a few master pieces in the line of books. Her latest seller is How To Gain Weight . Then I saw Arlene Newman, who was always so active in school sports, receiving an award for the out- standing coach of the year. Arlene has led the A.T.H.S. boys to their 50th victory. Then I saw a girl sitting in a rocking chair knitting-to my amazement I saw that this was Patsy Rav. It seems she could never quite make up her mind which man she wanted. so as I found out she is peace- fully living the life of an old maid. Then I saw three boys, Stanley Holtz, Donald Thomas and Joe Szathowski-these boys are working on a cam- paign to raise money to donate to A.T.H.S. This money will go towards erecting escalators and venetian blinds in our beloved school. Evelyn Heck and Bernice Wisniewski appeared next. Evelyn is working as head wait- QContinuedJ Senior Prophecy ress at Bernice's new business place. A floor show is given every night called The Johnson's starring Bernice's ten kids. The next ball of fire revealed to me Inez Stephens, who was captain of the ship La Terry . Her new cabin boy is, guess who. Who should appear next but Mary Thompson and Hazel Udarholt, who were such pals in school and could never stand to be separated. As a result I've learned that they never mar- ried-but have a career writing Advice To The Lovelorn for the Ashley Gazette. Then I saw a person painting, this was Lyle Kane. He's very famous now and his favorite model is a cute little cheerleader. More balls of fire appeared and this was Jerry Jones and Stanley Brown, who are the star players on the St. Louis Bomb:-1r's team now. Then I saw Freida Skibinski appear, she is the manager of a lonely hearts club in Richview and her acquaintances are guaranteed to please. Last but not least I saw Charlotte Hagebush and Bill Cook. C. A. had just pre- sented her first set of false teeth to her husband land childhood sweet- hearty who is coaching the Nashville team this year. As Bill and C. A. faded from sight my head began to claer and I opened my eyes-all of these visions I had seen were just dreams-I had been knocked out by the explosion. Well, it was fun anyway, just imagin- ing what my classmates would be twenty years from now. Enough dream- ing for this time, I have to hurry and get dinner for my husband and kids. We know you have been anxiously awaiting the results--and here they are. The girl and boy chosen to be the most intelligent and the most likely to succeed were Joan Robbins and Carl Udarholt. The most loving and best matched couple was Charlotte Hagebush and Bill Cook. And of course, Marie McKinzie and Joe Szatkowski had no trouble in copping the honor for the tallest. After our tall couple come our shortest guy and gal and these are Freida Skibinski and Donald Thomas. Nadine Wolfe and Jerry Jones a likeable girl and boy took the title of the most popular. Wilma Smith and Kenneth Conley who are always shining with cleanliness were chosen as the best groomed from our class. Representing muscular ability from our class are Arlene Newman and Stanley Holtz. This couple took part in most activities and were chosen the most athletic. Evelyn Heck and Junior. Deering showing smoothness on the dance floor gained the title of the best dancers. Along with all the outstanding traits represented in our Senior class of '50 we also have musical talent. Chosen for this were Inez Stephens and Lyle Kane. And last, but far from least, our modest couple creeps in. This is none other than Adeline Nadolski and Stanley Brown. We were initiated a few days later and threw away our names of green Freshmen. The officers elected were: President, Ralph Rileyg Vice President, Wayne Greerg Secretary and Treasurer, Terry Kretzg and our sponsor was Mr. Rountree. In August 1948, twenty-eight Sophomres trudged up the steps and pledged their loyalty to good old A.T.H.S. With Mr. Large as our sponsor we elected the following officers: President, Cecil Robinsong Vice President, Terry Kretzg Secretary, Joe Kulag and Treasurer, Herman Kryger. Then in September of 1949, we returned again to A.T.H.S. with twenty-one members, but with dignity as we were now considered upper classmenf' Our sponsors this year are Mrs. Toman and Mrs. Hogancamp, and our officers are: President, Herman Krygerg Vice President, Cecil Robinsong Secretary and Treasurer, Phyllis Bradleyg and Reporter, Joan Keen. During the first part of our Junior year we had a magazine sale to raise money for our Junior and Senior Prom. Then later we presented our class play A Lucky Penny which, we thought, was a great success. Our class has taken part in many activities throughout our three years. Next year when we return as dignified Seniors we hope to accomplish much for our class and our school. The band is a very proud organization this year because we have new uniforms. The uniforms consist of hats, coats, and trousers. The parents and townspeople helped us pay for them. The band has added a few new members this year. It is still going through a period of rebuilding. Only three of the experienced will gradu- ate this year. Rehearsal time is spent mostly on drill work, preparing for basketball games and concerts. Separate instrumental classes are held and solo lessons are given. The performances the band has given have been, playing for Teach- er's Institute, and combining with Carlyle, Nashville, and Sandoval in giving Tri-County Music Festivals. There are four festivals a year. One festival is held at each school. At the Ashley concert the performance was broadcast over WCNT-FM. This is the first broadcast of this type in this area. These festivals were started instead of going to music contest. We also have a Spring Concert. The band is to have an exchange program with Marissa sometime in the Spring. The instrumental solos and ensembles are: Ensembles, Hungry- Five, consisting of Tom Woodroome, Bassg Ivan Pitchford, Tromboneg Joe Pitchford, Trumpetg Phyllis Bradley and Inez Stephens, Clarinets. They are Orland Haun, Lucille Sensel, Darlene Thomson, Larry Wolfe, Paul Setzekorn, Harold Evans, Anna Mae Thomson, Peggy Keen, Leslie Voekel, and Billy Shelton. Joe Allan Reynolds had left us. Our teachers this year are Kathryn Heath, Viola Stroube and Wesley Jones. By Peggy Keen C Eighth Grade Class Prophecy Here I, Anna Mae Thomson, sit just an old maid with nothing to do but crochet, and for company I have my beloved cat, Menerva. But some- times I think back over the past twenty-five years since the class of '50 graduated from grade school. The first person that comes to my mind is Larry Wolfe. He is now singing with Spike Jones every Saturday night at 7:00 p. m. His boy soprano voice has sadly dropped to a droning bass. The playboy, Harold Evans has settled down to farming and is very busy trying to think of his kids names. Then there is Darlene Thomson who is working in Barnes Hospital where all the tall, dark, and handsome doctors are. Her worst patient is a St. Bernard dog. Alice Severs is now running a beauty shop called The Severs Beauty Salon. She is so busy beautifying herself for her dates that she doesn't have time for her many, many customers. Now I think of Leslie Voelkel who is running a Motor Bike Wrecking Shop. He is just out of jail for running cars off the road with his new Streamlined Whizzer. Bill Shelton, the smart schoolboy, is a Harvard professor in Connecti- cut. He teaches Girlology. Orland Haun has a bright future as a Democratic politician. As a side- line, he plays Eursel Twiang on the radio. After the program he goes to the parking lot and sticks Democratic stickers on the car windows. Next week he marries Beulah. He has much difficulty trying to get his arms around her, to which she doesn't object. Paul Setzekorn is driving the Ashley Dump Truck. He has five boys who play on the Ashley Alley Rats team, coached by Mr. Jones. Lucille Sensel has used the Super Duper dieting plan and has taken miichlof the weight off. She is now working at the New York Modeling Sc oo . Last but not least is Peggy Keen who has done quite well for herself. She has married none other than Joey Wajtowicz. He is driving the 10th Avenue Street car. They are living with their twins at 102 South Tucker Street. -- :- Eighth Grade LastWill and Testament We the class of 1950, beng of unsound minds and frail bodies do hereby bequeath the following: I, Lucille Sensel, bequeath my Weight to Merilyn Whittaker.
