He has been assistant principal since 1955. be, ae % ; eee ne MRS. LORINE W. CATHEY Mrs. Cathey, the registrar, is a native of Bristol, Ten- nessee, but she has lived in Gastonia most of her life. In addition to her work at Ashley, Mrs. Cathey is Vice-President of the Southwestern District of the Department of Educational Secretaries of the North Carolina Education Association and a member of the First Wesleyan Methodist Church. DR. WOODROW B. SUGG Dr. Sugg has served as Superintendent of the Gastonia City Schools for six years. After graduating from Edge- comb County High School, he attended Atlantic Chris- tian College where he received his A.B. degree. Dr. Sugg earned his M.A. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Florida. He was at one time principal of Arlington Junior High School; he also served as supervisor for the Gastonia City Schools. Dr. Sugg is a member of the Kiwanis Club and a member of the Board of Stewards of the First Methodist Church. Administrative leaders guide and direct Page Sixteen DR. RANDOLPH E. CAROTHERS Dr. Carothers became principal of Ashley High School in 1955. He received his B.S. degree from Presbyterian College, M.A. from. the University of South Carolina, and Ed.D. from Florida State University. He previously served as principal of the high school in Gaffney, South Carolina. Dr. Carothers came to Gastonia as assistant principal in 1954. He is a member of the Rotary Club and an active member of the First Presbyterian Church. He enjoys spending much time at his river cabin with his wife and ten-year-old son, Randy.
