High School athletics emphasizes competition and provides a boy with the self-discipline necessary for him to develop himself morally, emotionally, and physically, thereby attaining many of the qualities which go hand in hand with success in our free enterprise system. The Green Wave competes in the rugged 4-A high school conference of North Carolina. Football, basketball, baseball, track and golf are offered to boys in grades ten through twelve; all schedules are organized and sanctioned by the conference coaches and officials. Ten games are played in football; 19 in basketball, 18 in baseball: 8 track meets; and golf matches are scheduled depending on weather conditions.
