VLE. anes Gillam } | This is the fifth year of service for the Junior Civitan Club here at Ashley. Membership is based on scholar- ship, leadership, citizenship, and willingness to serve. This year’s services to the school and community in- cluded the operation of concession stands at home ball | games, participation in the March of Dimes campaign, the annual fruit cake sale for the benefit of the Handi- capped School, the sale of American Field Service Christ- mas cards, and the Halloween candy sale. The motto of the Junior Civitan Club is “Builders of Good Citizen- ship.” Meetings are held twice a month. Page Ninety-seven

The club consists of members outstanding in leadership, scholarship, character, and willingness to serve others. This year’s projects included setting up a beauty parlor for the children at the Orthopedic Hospital, ushering at Community Concerts and the Little Theater, selling Claxton fruit cakes and Christmas cards for the Amer- ican Field Service. Civinettes were privileged to have Barbara Knoedler, exchange student from Germany, as an honorary mem- ber this year. Since its organization in the spring of 1962, the Key- ette Club has served the school and community in a variety of ways. This year’s projects have included main- tenance of the school clinic, the sale of light bulbs, and sale of American Field Service Christmas cards. In ad- dition, the Keyettes have visited the County Home each month and have also rolled bandages for the Cancer So- ciety. Membership in the Keyette Club is based on char- acter, scholarship, leadership, and willingness to serve. This organization, which is sponsored locally by the Gastonia Kiwanis Club, has as its motto “We build.” Meetings are held three times each month.
