Ashley High School Chapter of The Junior Classical League, a nation-wide organization. Mem- bership is open to second year Latin students who seek ac- quaintance with the ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. Particular emphasis is placed on die indebtedness of our modern civilization to the ancient in Laws, the arts, and the sciences. Regular monthly meetings are held each third Thursday eve ning in the Student Center. The Camera Club was organ- ized in 1956 to help the high school students who were inter- ested in photography as a hob- by. The club programs feature demonstrations on cameras, ex- perimental work in printing, and contests for finished pictures. Lindley Murray had many of his pictures accepted for the 1958 Spinner. Mrs. Jack Tay- lor is sponsor for the club. Driver’s Education is an elec- tive course at Ashley Senior Hifh and is tauaht in eighteen weeks. Mr. Robert L. Stapleton has two different classes during one school term. This course in- cludes all the technical aspects of driving, as well as the legal and moral ones. Club organiza- tion is effected in order to pro- mote Safety Education through- out the entire school program. Safety experts and Driving Demonstrations are provided for the student body each year. Junior Civitan Clubs are serv- ice clubs, having the same officers, committees, and gen- eral purposes as the Senior Civi- tan Club. They are always spon- sored by the local Civitan Club. Their purpose is that of render- ing service to the school or church community. Through Junior Civitan the spirit of serv- ice, tolerance, understanding, and responsibility is promoted in youth of high school age. Young people between the ages of fourteen and twenty-one are eli- gible for membership. The club at Ashley Senior High is made up of twenty girls from the Jun- ior and Sophomore classes. It was organized in 1946 in order to promote an interest in science and to give an opportunity for individual study on science projects. Membership in the club is by elec- tion, with a major in science as a prerequisite. Regular meetings are held twice each month. Varied topics in the field of science are presented in the programs.
