The organiza- tion of a club is maintained in order to carry out many of the obiectives of the course, to give experience in leadership, and to perform better certain group projects. In October of this school year, the local Club was host to all D. E. Clubs in West- ern North Carolina; at the same time a Bosses’ Luncheon was served to more than two hun- dred people. Mrs. D. L. Stan- ley is coordinator for all Dis- tributive Education courses at Ashley High and Adult courses for the community. The Future Business Leaders of America is the newest club at Ashley High. It is sponsored by the National Secretaries As- sociation. Its objectives are: 1. To build a professional code of ethics among women business leaders. 2. To provide more contacts with the business offices. 3. To keep informed on the current business problems. Two regular meetings are held each month. Membership is vol- untary. Misses Evelyn Howell and Jean McArver are sponsors for the club. The Library Club is primarily a service club. Membership is voluntary. The library is able to extend its services to the stu- dents because the club members give hundreds of hours to library administration, cataloguing, and poster making. Ashley Senior High receives a very high rating for the quality of its library and the services rendered. Library Club members are often able to use their work expe rience here to secure aid in college expenses. Mrs. Elise Riley is the efficient leader for this club. To promote a spiritual at- mosphere in the high school pro- gram. 2. To supervise homeroom de- votional periods at 8:30 each school day. 3. To offer an opportunity for Christian fellowship. Two regular monthly meet- ings are held— one at school and the other in one of the city churches. The programs include such topics as vocational guid- ance, choosing a college, youth problems, and alcohol education. Miss Carol Williams, teacher of Bible at Ashley, is sponsor for the club. Driver’s Education is an elec- tive course at Ashley Senior Hifh and is tauaht in eighteen weeks. Mr. Robert L. Stapleton has two different classes during one school term. This course in- cludes all the technical aspects of driving, as well as the legal and moral ones. Club organiza- tion is effected in order to pro- mote Safety Education through- out the entire school program. Safety experts and Driving Demonstrations are provided for the student body each year. Junior Civitan Clubs are serv- ice clubs, having the same officers, committees, and gen- eral purposes as the Senior Civi- tan Club. They are always spon- sored by the local Civitan Club. Their purpose is that of render- ing service to the school or church community. Through Junior Civitan the spirit of serv- ice, tolerance, understanding, and responsibility is promoted in youth of high school age. Young people between the ages of fourteen and twenty-one are eli- gible for membership. The club at Ashley Senior High is made up of twenty girls from the Jun- ior and Sophomore classes.
