The 1958 SPINNER is your thirty-sixth year- book published by our high school. Since Sputnik I and the many other events which have caused the American people to start evaluating the public schools, the staff decided that The Game was a timely theme for this edition of THE SPINNER. Ashley Senior Eligh has always been dedicated to the basic factors in a liberal education Through- out this volume you will see portrayed the activities, the objectives, and the achievements of a student body, 1350 in number, and a faculty of 48. The Game goes on in the classroom, in the auditorium, on the athletic field, and on the campus. It con- tinues around the clock for five days a week. The band participates in all local parades and patriotic celebrations. The mixed chorus has appeared many times during the year before the Civic Clubs. Both organizations participate in the state music contest. For seven consecutive yesrs the band has won an Excellent rating. For the past two years the chorus has won the top rating and has furnished a number of participants to sing in the AlLState Chorus at the State Festival in Greensboro. Mr. L. O. McCollum is the director of instrumental music at Ashley Senior High and the three Junior Highs. Miss Josephine Osborne is teacher of vocal music.
