CLASS HISTORY With 47 students our class began its first year in high school. On September 10, 1958, we elected class officers. The results of the election were as follows: Sponsor, Mr. Harold Amey; President, Fred Perkins; Vice-President, Bruce Scranage; Secretary, Judy Biggerstaff; Treasurer, Bill Brand; Historian, Carol Whysong; Reporters, Janice Forrest and Jim Ankney. October 3 was a big day in our freshman year, for this was the day we ordered red and blue school sweaters. At our second class meeting we decided to have a sock-hop on November 15. This proved to be very successful. We had a class party at Pokagon on April 27, and three days later our biology class made a trip to Chicago to visit the Science and Industry Museum and the Historical Museum. The first class meeting of our sophomore year was in the history room. After electing Mr. Rex Hile as our class sponsor, we elected officers as follows: President, Bruce Scranage; Vice-President, Fred Perkins; Secretary, Bonnie Campbell; Treasurer, Janice Forrest; Historian, Carol Whysong; Reporters, Judy Biggerstaff and Leah Musser. On September 18, our sophomore class, consisting of fifty students, held the first sock hop of the year. We received our long awaited class rings on November 23. They were admired by all. Our other money making projects, besides having the first sock hop of the year, were a bake sale, a car wash, selling American Flags, and another sock hop at the end of the year. We had a wonderful Christmas party at Mr. Hile ' s home. During our junior year Dollie Amey was our class sponsor and our officers were chosen as follows: President, Bruce Scranage; Vice President, Margaret Davis; Secre- tary, Bonnie Campbell; Treasurer, Carol Whysong; Historian, Judy Biggerstaff; Re- porters, Pat Mettert and Leah Musser. As juniors, we 41 class members were naturally engaged in several money making projects. These included magazine sales, paper drives, Christmas card sales, and Christmas candy sales. The big event of the year was on April 22, when we presented our first class play, The Other You. There was a party held after the play at Bruce Scranage ' s home. We have reached our final year at Ashley High with 34 members in the class. Our leaders for the year ' 61- ' 62 are Fred Fredericks, sponsor; Bruce Scranage, President; Jim Ankney, Vice-President; Bonnie Campbell, Secretary; Sharon Pentecost, Treasurer; Judy Biggerstaff, Historian; Karen Lockwood, Reporter. We presented our senior class play, Miss Adventure, on October 25. Now we are anxiously awaiting the class trip and graduation. 2 o Z C a § S a; ci t; ► pQ O (1) .-I Q fc M - o « § 2 S - o-S 3 3 rt - c -T o - - t; 5 S a E -u t g - - a; ' - rt hJ - i pi •M ' u Xi -S p2 o - 00 [T; rt s « I « o O ' D 0 rt 1=1 rt lil pH (U -n: t O 01 (j-i tf a, 00 t 4) 00 nl n a) r! o [I. a I ■a tS O, n o; lU o s : i 60 00 a o o 2 rt H-l 3 V-- ?P rt H li 2 2 rt fi £ o We, the class of 1962, dedicate this annual to MR. REX HILE our social studies teacher and assistant coach. He started teaching here in 1958. He organized the school paper in 1958 and the Pep Club in 1959. He now sponsors the paper staff and the Sophomore Class. Mr. Hile has also started other activities for everyone in the community. Mr. Hile was born at Columbia City, Indiana, and attended Columbia City High School. After serving in the Marines for two years, he attended Wabash College, graduating from there in 1958. On June 4, 1949, he married Golden Marie Wheeler. They have two children, Trionne Marie and Troy Gene. We would like to wish him the best of luck in his future years.
