ECKHART PUBLIC LIBRARY 603 S. Very early one September morning in 1957, thirty-six Freshmen gulped and began climbing the stairs to the assembly room. Officers were elected as follows: Mike Buchs, president; Joe Brand, vice- president; Ileen Vian, secretary; Harriet Allen, treasurer; Janice Camp, historian; Jackie Housman and Merlin Baird, reporters; Harold Arney, sponsor. We held two class parties. On October 11 our class sweaters arrived. In August of 1958, the Sophomores eagerly climbed the steps to the assembly, no longer frightened. Jim Kraus, Margaret Holsinger, Alfred and Sandy Crapo, Marjorie Isbell, and Pat Tompkins had joined us; we totalled 41. Officers were: Joe Brand, president; Mike Buchs, vice-president, Harriet Allen, secretary; Jan Camp, treasurer; Jackie Housman, Historian; Iris Mock and Bob Taylor, reporters; Paul Everitt, sponsor. Our class rings arrived on November 13. We held a sock hop and a skating party. During the year, Ileen Vian discontinued her schoolwork. SEATED; Phyllis Parker, Nancy Zonker, Jackie Housman, ROW 1: Carol Reinoehl, Karen Wilhelm, Joyce Eddingfield, Jean Eddingfield, Betty Hoyer, Nila Myers, Janice Camp, ROW 2: Jerry Perkins, Bob Taylor, Merlin Baird, Mike Grogg, Corless Hungerford, Joe Brand, Jim Porter, Mrs. Arney. In early September the Juniors came to school ready and willing to begin the big job ahead of them. Jim Kraus, Sandy and Alfred Crapo, Sandra Anthony, Glenda Denman, and Margaret Holsinger had de- parted, but Jean and Joyce Eddingfield had joined us. Class officers were: Joe Brand, president; Mike Buchs, vice-president; Jan Camp, secretary; Harriet Allen, treasurer; Jackie Housman, historian; Sharon Rinehold, reporter; Mrs. Arney, sponsor. We were successful in our magazine, Christmas card, and candy sales, and a paper drive. The Christmas party was held at Sharon Rinehold's home. Tiger on His Toes was presented on April 9,1960, with a party at Bob Taylor's afterward. Thirty-four Seniors entered Ashley High School this year. We lost Gloria Shipe, Terry Walker, David Boyd, and Pat McNeely; although we happily greeted Jim Porter and Kay Varner. On November 12, 1960, we presented Come Out of the Closet, a smashing success, thanks to Mrs. Dollie Arney. A party was held at the home of Mr. Mrs. Donald Martz, with Marjorie Isbell, hostess. Bob Taylor held our Christmas party. We are presently working on the yearbook, and we have nearly completed gradua- tion plans. We are under the leadership of Mr. Fred Frederick, sponsor; Mike Buchs, president; Joe Brand, vice-president; Jan Camp, secretary; John Miller, treasurer; Kenny Rakestraw, trip treasurer; Jackie Housman, historian; Ellen Skelly reporter. One of our last acts is to DEDICATE THIS ANNUAL, . To Mr. Harold Arney, our science and math teacher. Mr, Arney graduated from Three Rivers High School, Three Rivers, Michigan and from Manchester College, North Manchester. In 1930 he married Dollie Yanka. They have two sons--Harold, Jr., and David. He started teaching at Ashley in 1952. He has constructed the scenery for the Junior and Senior Class Plays for many years, and has managed the lunchroom here at Ashley since he came here. “nnn |B i“ [] Mail ———=S = Ree —— Be ———— = vali h Wy Me wh on U fra f mints FRED FREDERICK A.Bo=-M-A,; Principal Tri-State, Columbia University CLARENCE BOWERS BosensMiso: County Superintendent Tri-State, Ball State, Indiana University ADVISORY BOARD Mr. Robert Forrest Mr. Wiley Phillips Mr. John Hoffelder PROTONS VERN BACHTEL Trustee enennenensninnns i i (li HUVNEVAAUUUAUUUNEOANEDUGNNUAUOUAAOUDNNUUONUDOUEDGEOUOOSUDONOOUUONDOONONOOODOGOCdOOODOOOONdHEEEer: il HK I Mth il (( wll Atoms of Learning 1, Mary Wolfe, M.S., B.S., Indiana University, Ball State, English. 2.
