History In the fall of '55 we as Freshmen walked into the assembly hall of Ashley High School and began to in- spect our new environment. We held a class meeting to elect as officers: Julia Zonker, President; Jim Weilbaker, Vice President; Gene Noll, Secretary; Ronald Stahl, Treasurer; Elaine Sprankle and Mike Healey, Reporters; Larry Ulrich, Historian; and Harold Arney, Sponsor. On November 9th we ordered our class sweaters, and when they arrived on December 5th, everyone was eager to receive his. We held two skating parties at the Silver Moon Skating Rink, and also had a party with the Sophomores at the Ashley Town Hall. About the last of the year we began to hear some rumors about the possibilities of a new school building. We were interested, of course, but more interesting was the fact that we were soon to become Sophomores. When we came back that fall, we were quite surprised to see that work had begun on the new school build= ing. As the year passed the building began to grow and take shape; life went on as usual in the school. In election that year we elected Dale Mertz, President; Dixie Phillips, Vice President; Gene Noll, Secretary; Sharon Forrest, Treasurer; Joyce Albright and Paul Ankney, Reporters; Larry Ulrich, Historian; and Paul Everitt, Sponsor. We ordered our class rings on October 12th. No one could have been prouder than we were when they arrived on November 4th. We defeated the Freshmen, but were beaten by the Juniors in the class tourney. We held two skating parties at the Silver Moon, and sold name labels to help our treasury along. Inthe spring we went to Pokagon State Park for a wiener roast., By this time we were all looking forward to the day when school would be let out for the summer. The new school building was progressing. Getting back to school again after the summer vacation and getting in line ready for this hectic year was a job. Election time rolled around again and we elected Jim Weilbaker, President; Paul Ankney Vice President; Dixie Phillips, Secretary; Lina Hamman, Treasurer; Barbara Chavez and Joyce Albright, Reporters; and Dollie Arney, Sponsor. We began our campaign to raise money for our Senior Trip in full spirit. We sold magazines, Christmas cards, Christmas candy; and sold candy, ice cream, and popcorn at school and at the basketball games. We also had bake sales, record hops, and skating parties. Several weeks after school started, we were allowed to start in the new building, and we all helped to move the chemistry lab, agriculture room, typing room, and music room into their respective places. The home economics room was not quite ready. After the basketball season was Over, we started to work on the Junior play, “Too Young, Too Old. We had a lot of fun, even though Dollie had to bawl us out several times. We presented the play on April 18th, and everything seemed to go along smoothly. After the play we went to Leonard's home for a party. Later that year in the class tourney, we won over the Sophomore class and then defeated the Seniors. When.we came back this year, in all of our minds was the question; Where has the time gone? It seemed such a short time ago that we were just Freshmen. Now we will be going out into the world instead of into high school. Later we held our class election and elected Jim Weil baker, President; Dale Rinehold, Vice President; Lina Hamman, Secretary; Larry Ulrich, Treasurer; Martha Dilley, Historian; and Fred Frederick, Sponsor. We have had a record hop and bake sale to help raise money for our Senior Trip Fund. We presented our Senior play, I Was a Teen-Age Dracula, on November 21. It was received very well. Now we are compiling our annual. Jerry Brand gave a party for the class, and it was enjoyed by all. We are looking forward with enthusiasm to events yet to come, such as Senior Trip, Class Night, Commencement, and Baccalaureate Services. nt ee ete cata ye en denen uh aa er eae ee Ca
