10 Class History Say, do you remember that hot August day when forty of us green Freshmen started struggling on our upward climb? Mr. Fee was our class sponsor at that time. We elected Janice Allen, President; Eldon Skelly, Vice-President; Janet Harmes, Secretary; Bill Stackhouse, Treasurer; Sally Mergy, Historian; and Pat Walker, Reporter. There were two parties that year, one a skating party at the Silvermoon Skating Rink. The second was a wiener roast out back of the schoolhouse and afterwards we all went to the show at Angola. April rolled around and were eager for May and vacation. The following August we began our Sophomore year with thirty-eight students. Susie Pfefferkorn, Richard Wolf, Laura Krontz, and Frank Albright left us. We got two new classmates that year who were Gilbert Spencer and Paul Chavez. Paul Everitt was our class sponsor and the elected officers were: Eldon Skelly, President; Jack Smith, Vice- President; Pat Walker, Secretary; Donald Shipe, Treasurer; Janet Harmes, Historian; and Donna Shumaker, Reporter. Only one exciting party was held that year. It was a party at Pokagon, where we played games and had a wiener roast; then we all jumped ina bus and headed for Angola to see a show, That year was a very important one. We ordered and received class rings and sweaters, -The end of the second term came at last. We found that we were half way through high school and it wasn’t a bit bad. We returned in the fall all ready to pitch in and make money for the Junior and Senior trip. We elected our class officers: Pat Walker, President; Lois Perkins, Vice-President; Janice Allen, Secretary; Annette Bender, Treasurer; Eldon Skelly, Historian; and Janet Harmes, Reporter, There were thirty-seven of us that year. Joan Kneubuhler left us and Joan Hartsock came from Avilla. We put ona play, ‘‘LOVE IS TOO MUCH : TROUBLE”’; we thought it was a big success. We had two paper drives and two bake sales. Finally the big day for the Junior and Senior trip came--four wonderful and exciting days that we will always remember: Our Senior year soon rolled around and we were on our last step of our exciting adventure at Ashley High School, We elected our class officers: Eldon Skelly, President; Janice Allen, Vice-President; Lois Perkins, Secretary;. Annette Bender, Treasurer; Pat Walker and Carroll Stout as Reporters, We went down to Roberts Studio at Fort Wayne and had our pictures taken in October. In December, we put ona play, which everyone enjoyed, called, ‘ A DANCE WITH OUR MISS BROOKS. ' We helped the Juniors with their bake sale in February because we are looking forward to that five day trip to Washington, This about finishes it for us. It has been wonderful here at Ashley, but we are now on our own.
