In the past years there have been quite a few changes centered around the school building, faculty, curriculum, busses, and equipment. In the 1981 school year the school received funds to build a new swimming pool. Also a new rac-quetball court was built by the tennis courts. During 1983 the school received a new wind generator. The photography class was combined with the Yearbook class. Mrs. Linda Wilson joined the faculty. She instructed 8th and 10th grade English, and Vocational English. In 1985 Mrs. Wilson instructed art in grades K-12 and sponsored the cheerleaders. In 1984 a construction crew enclosed the open square and built a new art room. The library and science labs were enlarged. Mrs. Sally McQuade started a drama club which took the place of Speech II. Mr. Steve Lenz joined the staff. He taught Chemistry, Physics, 8th grade Science, and General Science. He also coached Cross Country and Junior High boys basketball. Janet Fast instructed the grade school choir after Brad Meredith joined the faculty as Junior-Senior High Music Director. The school purchased new busses and more computers. There were five new correcting typewriters purchased for the typing classes. In the 1985-86 school year study halls were added, and activity period and pep club were dropped. Mr. Bob Smyth joined the staff to teach Senior Government and 7th grade Kansas History. He also coached boys basketball and girls and boys tennis. Mrs. Diana Hass taught the 6th grade class replacing Jack Riley. Gayle Randles was employed full time as cook and grade school custodian. This year the school was reclassified from a 2A to a 1A school. These changes along with the cover and division page design brought about the idea of adopting Change as the theme for the 1986 Bluejay. Making, Changing, And Enforcing School Policies Provide Work For The Administration School Board and Administration combine to set rules and guidelines for students and faculty to abide by. This year two women were elected to the School Board, Leanne Pike and Linda Harden. The School Board met the second Monday of every month to approve programs, athletic dates, and make moneymaking and spending decisions. The Administration enforces the guidelines set by the Board and Mr. Dale Moody, Superintendent for three years, makes sure everything runs smoothly in USD 220. Mr. Garlon Jarnagin accepted a cookie monster cake from the cheerleaders who thanked him for being a friend, not a monster. The presentation was made at a football pep rally. Mr. Jarnagin is Junior and Senior High Principal replacing Mr. Moody three years ago. help to make their job easier. The School Board also decides what teachers to hire, what rules the Administration has to enforce, and many other rules and regulations. Members were Aaron Bates, Doug Inderlied, Billy J. Rich, Charles McKinney, president; Leanne Pike, vice president; and Linda Harden. Not pictured, Harry O. Walker. 2 Administration
