Student Council Makes Decisions Student Council has many, responsibilities: furnishing the flowers and crown for homecoming and sweetheart, choosing the flower girls and crown bearer, deciding what music to hire and how much to charge for dances, and management of the pop machine. In the spring, students petition the student body for the office of their choice: president, vice president, or secretary-treasurer. They run a campaign, giving preelection speeches at an assembly. An all-school election determines the officers for the following year. For regular members, each club and organization elects one representative, and each class selects two. Stuco members from left front are Rafe Messer (vocal music), Mark Tuttle (senior class), Jana Preisner (senior class), Carrie Travis (freshman class), Brett Bates (A-Club), Kim Mason (elected secretary-treasurer), Joe Smyth (elected president). Dee Reed (vice president and National Honor Society), Karen Isenbart (sophomore class), Frank Long (sponsor), Trent Dome (junior class), Doug Rich (sophomore class), Lance Walker (band), and Chris Gillespie (freshman class). Dee, runnerup in the campaign for Student Council vice president, replaced the winner who did not re-enroll in AHS this year. Stuco officers Kim, Joe, and Dee and Mr. Long went to a League Stuco meeting September 4 to develop better relationships among League members. Out of this meeting came a new League sportsmanship policy. A school is rated and can win a sportsmanship trophy which will be awarded at the League basketball tournament. 28 Student Council
