 • This year has been filled with many experiences which we shall never forget. The joys, the sorrows, the fun and the hard work - these are all part of our memories of this past year. It has been our purpose to capture the unconventional as well as the conventional side of school life. The 1975 Bluejay is yours, you made it; we preserved it through word and picture. The Bluejay Staff is pleased and proud to present to you the 1975 BLUEJAY. Secretary 4 V, JAMES P. HARPER WARREN R. CONNER A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT Congratulations to the members of the class of 1975! Completion of the prescribed requirements of Public Education marks a crossroad situation in the life of every student. Continued education is indicated for all but may not necessarily be of a formal nature. I direct you to respond to your freedom from the formal situation, by weighing well the decisions which you must now make independently. The present day universal emphasis placed on the proper use of the World's resources, provides the setting for my thoughts about a most important personal asset, your own body. I refer you to I Corinthians 3, verse 16: --that you are the Temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you. I exhort you to choose that which continues to strengthen and develop your body as wel I as your mind. You have done well. I challenge you to full personal discipline and it's continuing rewards. It was all so much fun. As we think about it now. All the rain and the times of sun, It was all so beautiful somehow. As we grow up together. And watched each wther mature. Through all kinds of weather, We did try to decide our future. Some of us are married. Some have promise rings. But we are very decided, on one certain thing. That even though school is a drag and sometimes gets you down. Sometimes makes you call your teachers a hag, and makes you want to leave this town. You've got to be solid and work it all through. That is the way that the President's started, So it is surely not wrong for you. So make your way through high school. Then do what you want to. Don't quit and be like a fool. Everyone needs a starting place, even you. When school's over, it's not the end. It's the beginning, an opening of new doors. To all kinds of new friends And so very much more. So as we prepare ourselves. To go our separate ways. We say, Help yourselves make the sunshine for you today, and go through with high school, don't quit, so you can go out to play. Use what you learn as a tool, to start you on your way. JANE SHREVE, SPONSOR JIM HARDEN, PRES, RANDY LIPSETT, VICE PRES CLASS COLORS BLUE GOLD MARLA WILLIAMSON, SEC.-TREAS. Highlights of the 1974 season would be the desire and determination shown by the fighting Blue Jays to defeat Fowler 16-14 with a field goal in the last minute of play. The victory over county rival Minneola and the win over Spearville to close out the season gave hope for the future. The Blue Jay team scored in every game they played and were the first team to score on S.W. Heights - the League Champs. Seven seniors, six juniors, six sophomore and three freshmen lettered this year so there will be good experience returning to the Blue Jay team next year. 55 Offense Randy Callison, Rodney Hulstine, Jim Harden, John Tuttle, Andy Howell, Brad Duvall, Matt McQuade, Butch McPhail, Jake Osborn, Rick Carter, and John Randall. Three of the ten teams found themselves going into the regional or state playoffs. Led by Rick Carter, Jim Harden, Andy Howell, and Hal McNickle the Bluejays could only manage a 4 won 19 loss record. The won loss record however was no indication of the caliber of ball played. With a strong nucleus returning next year, the future could be bright. Rick Carter was the only basketball player to receive honors during the 74-75 season. Candids Flute Trio Clarinet Quartet 78 Looking back, a few short years ago The Band was only an instrument of many parts but now it has become a complete whole made up of those many parts, aimed in the direction of being and remaining one of the finest music organizations in Kansas. Together we've attained recognition throughout the state for marching excellence, we've performed for the most critical of audiences in one of the finest concert halls in Kansas, we've traveled to Europe performing jazz from all periods, and we've become one of the areas most controversial and progressive music programs; however, nothing can compare to the emotional and physical feelings that one who has been a member of this group can experience after or while performing or directing a single musical phrase played by the Ashland Bands. No director, school board, administrator, or parent can make a band. Only proud, sensitive, and honest members can make a band.
