Treasury Secretary John Connally explained FOREWORD Whereas we are in the middle of a world which is rapidly changing, our school is also undergoing many changes. We, the Annual Staff, have attempted to record some of the modifications in our curriculum, dresscode, and even hair styles during this school year. First, it signifies the end of, hopefully, a very productive, rewarding, and enjoyable school year. For those who have put every effort forth to make the most of each opportunity available, it gives one a great sense of satisfaction to know that a job has been well done. And secondly, it signifies a beginning, for those who have not achieved the goals which they have set for themselves. It is an opportunity to readjust, to begin anew, and it presents yet another opportunity to set realistic goals for which to strive. To the Seniors of the Class of 1972, who will soon be completing one major milestone in their lives, that of formal elementary and secondary education, the staff joins me in wishing each of you success and happiness as you begin another very important phase in your life, whether it be in a specialized training school, college, or beginning your life's work on the job. Seniors, you have the responsibility to help to make this a better world in which to live. . . what are you going to do? Best wishes to each of you, Steven A. McKee BOARD OF EDUCATION F. M. Twelve students from Ashland and Wichita spent two days attending the other school during the Ashland-Wichi-ta Southeast Exchange program. The program was designed to provide more insight for all students into the differences and similarities of large and small schools. Ashland students participating in the exchange were Jay Blue, Norma Cunningham, Susie Some, Dana Goodnight, Bev Speer, and Ronda Stegman. Stuco also continued maintenance, construction, and supervisions, of the student lounge, begun last year and circulated a questionnaire on the newly formed modular scheduling. Officers were Sally Shattuck, president, Tom Humphreys, vice-president, Ronda Stegman, secretary', and Gail Howell, treasurer. Doug Inderlied acted as sponsor of the group. At the festival, junior high students for Ashland rated very highly. The general music classes studied all of the aspects of music and the vocal groups performed a wide variety of music. Junior High Band It is quite rare that a director can state that within a musical organization every person seems to carry his share of the work. Ashland's junior high band seems to be one of these rare groups. This was shown at the league junior high instrumental festival where the band, soloists, and ensembles commanded superior ratings almost throughout. For its age I felt honestly that this instrumental organization is made up of some of Kansas' most up and coming musicians, stated Mr. Harms, director. 69 r Jr. High Football BOTTOM ROW: E. She spent seven years in rural Clark County schools, two years as an elementary teacher, and twenty years as kindergarten teacher. Mrs. Simmons belongs to Delta Kappa Gamma, Eastern Star, KNEA, NEA, and Clark County Teachers' Association. We, the Seniors, of 1972, would like to pay special tribute to Mrs. Simmons, who was the first teacher encountered by many members of the class. We would like to thank her for taking so much time and patience with each of us in the first year of school. Our BEST wishes go with her as she retires. 78 ADVERTISING LEONARD JULIA’S LITTLE STORE Open 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. “Fine Foods and Friendly Folks” Phone 635-2276 McPHAIL UPHOLSTERY REPAIR Phone 635-4452 RON CULVER CHEV.
