EVENTS I 7. After a successful Apollo 7 mission with three astronauts aboard, the United States followed in December with Apollo 8. This time a 3-man team made history by soaring into orbit around the moon. 8. This diagram shows the path of the Apollo 8 in successfully achieving lunar orbit and then returning to Earth. 9. Senator Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts eulogizes his slam brother during funeral service for Senator Robert F. Kennedy in St. Patrick s Cathedral in New York. President and Mrs. Johnson listen at lower right. 10. Jim Northrup hits a triple off Bob Gibson in the 7th inning of the final game of the World Series at Busch stadium in St. Louis. Two runs were driven in and the Detroit Tigers went on to beat the St. Louis Cardinals. 11. Student sit-ins got their share of publicity in 1968 — photo shows Columbia University students during a demonstration in April 12. This aerial view shows supporters of the Poor People s Campaign ringing the reflecting pool and wading into its waters as they gathered in June at the Lincoln Memorial. At right is Resurrection City Foreword We the'Annual Si have attempted to gi school year. We realize no tv 1968-69. We nemories of this the Seniors it marks the end of many wonderful experiences, and the beginning of new fields to conquer It is hoped you will find here many treasured memories that will serve to tie you with the past. Administration A MESSAGE FROM MR. KUGLER Congratulations Seniors upon completing twelve years of formal education. You have earned the plaudits of your teachers, relatives and friends. But, your graduation signals a beginning not an end to your obligation to continue your education either formally or informally. If you expect to meet and solve the problems of the future, you will have to become active, not passive--innovative, not imitative. You will have to utilize the full potential of yourselves. You will live in a society characterized by rapid change and unprecedented complexity which will not tolerate undeveloped or underdeveloped human talent. A society which will demand a greater acquisition of knowledge and more exacting endeavor than demanded of any prior generation if you would have financial success, the acclaim of your peers, and the realization of personal success; but there is more to human aspirations. Never forget that the true worth of an individual is found in his values, in his beliefs, in his preferences, in his aesthetic judgments, in his standards, in his measure of success, and in his commitments. In the future as in the past, what becomes of you as an individual will depend less on what you achieve, as on your individual standards--individual worth, individual dignity, individual initiative, individual freedom of choice, individual equality of opportunity, and respect for the rights of others. THOMAS KUGLER, Superintendent Board of Education, Unified School District 220; L. TO R. , Mrs. Phyllis Shattuck, Mr. Olis Goodnight, Jr. , Mr. Henry Gardiner, Dr. M. C. Rankin, Mr. Warren Harrington, and Mr. Art Ganson. 2 Principals And Counselors MR. KEITH CHANDLER Principal A MESSAGE FROM MR. CHANDLER As this school year comes to a close, many of us are beginning to reminisce about the many events of the past year. It is hard to believe that it could have passed so quickly. To you, the Seniors of 1969, the horizons and opportunities that will influence your life have suddenly widened and broadened to include a spectrum that greatly exceeds that which before it included mainly that of the Ashland High School and this very fine community. It is our sincere hope that we as teachers have prepared you to meet the demands of modern life--That no matter how rigorous your problems and tasks may be, you will overcome them by faith, courage, and dignity. Congratulations. THE TRUE TEACHERS' QUEST The blind could not notice a diamond A deaf man can not hear a song, And some without moral conviction Can not tell the right from the wrong. To some there's no lesson impressive They work just to gain a good grade; And, oh, that to us might be given To find how true greatness is made! Author unknown STEVEN A.
