The Alumni were greeted with a huge welcome sign made by the Senior class. Virginia McPhail reigned as our 1965 Homecoming Queen. The attendants were Linda Barricklow (LEFT) and Jenison Klinger (RIGHT). HI A ND The Senior's main feature was the starting line-up of the Jays. They received third place. The Junior class won second prize with a miniature football field and scoreboard. First prize was awarded to the Sophomores for their ingenious space ship launching the Jays to victory. To win fourth place in the contest, the Freshmen displayed a Plainsman hung in effigy. B O Y g VOCAL o R U S TRIPLE TRIO BOYS ENSEMBLE The Vocal Music Department has had a very successful year under the excellent direction of Miss Karin Hornung. I would like to say that I am proud of our department this year as we have exceeded my fondest expectations. Thank you so much for such a wonderful year. Miss Hornung All three choruses received I's at the League Music Festival held at Meade this year. MUMMI GIRLS ENSEMBLE BOYS QUARTET Twelve of the sixteen entries at the District Music Festival received I’s. All the groups and soloists should be congratulated for their fine work! Those receiving I's were: Mixed Chorus, Girls Chorus, Boys Chorus, Mixed Ensemble, Boys Ensemble, Triple Trio, Girls Ensemble, Linda Barricklow, Bill Seidel, Leland Vandeveer, Loraine Barricklow, and Scott Shattuck. Other soloists were: Paula Allison, Donna Bisel, and Marilyn Seacat. Soloists and small groups, making a total of 30 students, will compete at State Music Festival. Ashland should be very proud of this department for its outstanding work this year! ASHLAND BLUEJAY BAND The Ashland High School Bluejay Band under the direction of Mr. Steve Millis undertook several activities this year. The band was the feature attraction during half-time at all home football games. The band presented a short program for Veteran's Day and later presented its annual Christmas concert. The band's final activity was the annual spring pop concert which was held May 13th in the Grade School Auditorium. The students of Ashland High School have good reason to be proud of this band for it was the only class B band to receive three No. I ratings at District Contest this year. VARSITY TEAM The Ashland football team was in a year of rebuilding and no doubt would have won more games had they not been plagued with injuries. Our football team did not always display its maximum capabilities, but at all times they were aggressive and eager. I thoroughly enjoyed working with this fine team. B-TEAM L-R Coach Gilmore, Mike Lynch, John Stevens, Ray Love, Keith Waugh, Bill Wilson, Jim Daily, Bill Siedel, Coach Headrick, Andy McNickle, Bill Mull, Don Harden, Ronnie Trease, Larry Trease, Rick Trease The Bluejay Track team was short in number but not in ability this year. They scored in every meet they attended. The relays were the highlight in the club, although there were outstanding individual performances by Larry Trease, Andy McNickle and Rick Trease. The medley relay team picked up numerous medals during the season, including 1st at Ft. Hays. They set a new league record of 3:50.8. The mile relay varied its team members every meet to have its best time at 3:39.4. The 880 relay ran 1:36.8 as their best time. The 440 relay picked up 1st at Pratt. To me, it was an enjoyable season. I consider these boys willing to .work, and with this, we can achieve new heights. Coach Gilmore L-R Bill Wilson, Bill Siedel, Larry Trease, Andy McNickle (Medley relay team-1st at Ft. Hays) TENNIS L-R Scott Shattuck, Dennis Swanson, Frank York, Richard Stein, Dan Lunsford, Dan Urban, Leland Vandeveer, Ronnie Watson, Tom Little, Lewis Fry, Ivan Priesner, (Coached by H. S. Barb) OUR GOAL TO IMPROVE Ashland Tennis is definitely catching on, and is on the upward trend. The most encouraging thing about our tennis program, is that it is new and most of the boys will be back next year. Our goal next year will be to start earlier, schedule more matches, improve, and be competitive. Mr. Barb, tennis coach, is awarding letters this year for the first time to Lewis Fry, Ivan Preisner, Frank York, and Richard Stein. perform a cert ai« en'tal afS-Y ents (.see nin,:' i:n 3k ‘3j al; as, elemental ent; as, an el era m w x mena of physical na.V Hk Vv hem.
