'Dedication In celebration of the 60th anniversary of Ashland High School, we dedicate our “1956 Bluejay” to Mrs. T. T. Smith (Miss Effie P. Walden,) and Mrs. Sibyl Davidson (Miss Sibyl Vanlaningham), who were the two original members of the first class to graduate from Ashland High School 60 years ago. Mrs. Smith is living in Ashland, and at present is the Register of Deeds of Clark County. It is of interest to know that Mrs. Smith’s grandson, Ted Dorsey, will graduate this year, just 60 years after his grandmother graduated and will be the third generation of her family to graduate from Ashland High School. Mrs. Davidson married shortly after her graduation and moved to Oklahoma. She is now living in Wichita with her sister. She had one son that also graduated from this school. EARL HAELSIG CLOTHIER

1956 ‘SCuefeity iZueea aaet 'pxcaceM Yvonne Smith is the 1956 Bluejay Queen. The Senior Class elected Yvonne as their representative in the Annual Queen Contest and then won the honor for her by selling the most annuals. The queen contest was a very close one, ending in a tie between the juniors and seniors on the first deadline date. A new deadline date was set and the contest continued between the juniors and seniors. The seniors really went to work and at the end of the contest held a substantial lead to make Yvonne the Queen. The other queen candidates were Karen Klinger, Carol Stranghorner, and Ann Bowling. YVONNE SMITH KAY HURD Kay Hurd received the honor of being the 1956 Bluejay Princess. The Princess contest was held between the sixth, seventh and eighth grades. The grade that sold the most annuals won the honor for their representative . Kay was elected by the seventh grade to represent them and on the deadline date they held a lead over the sixth and eighth grades to give Kay the honor of the Bluejay Princess. The other princess candidates were Peggy Wyatt, and Karen Bowling. THE CLARK COUNTY CLIPPER 3
