X--S' Open mouths indicate hard work in this ease as Mr Myers dirett her third period music class, and Gail Saunders accompanies with her usual skill If I The hand, the Girls' Chorus, and the Boys' Chorus are the music organizations at A.H.S. Out of the 1,050 students in the school nearly 300 are memhers of one of these groups. The sixth period of each day is reserved for hand practice. Howf ever. on many occasions director W. C. Reeves, keeps the hand considerahly later than 3 :30. To hecome a memher of the hand a student is required either to have had experience in junior high or at least to have a reasonahle amount of skill on some hand instrument. 1 i fezf it i During the first three periods of each' day Mrs. Harry Myers teaches girls' vocal music classes. Special practices are held after school in the auditorium for concerts and special programs given throughout the year. Besides being members of the chorus the girls have the opportunity of participating in solo work or in ensembles. H i I The Boys' Chorus is also trained hy Mrs. Myers. Since the hoys donotl have a regular class period they manage to get their inf structiya hefore classes in the morning or afterwards in the ztftdt'nr,cJn.4The hoys participate in the programs given hy the Girls' Chorus. For the hoys who do not plan to go to college a vocational course is offered. Four trades are taught to high school hoys: machine shop, auto mechanics, electricity, and sheet metal. For girls interested in homemaking the school offers home economics. In the course are sewing, cooking, child care, family relations. interior decorating, first aid, and social etiquette. Any girl S taking home economics is eligible to hecome a mcmhcr of the Future Homemakers of America, one of the cluhs at AHS. By taking advantage of these courses students are equipped to go into vocations and homemaking immediately after high school, Vocational training prepares boys for splendid positions. and home economics prepares girls to take care of thc homes and families they will prohahly have in the future. Ahility to manipulate various types of machines is necessary to make a success of vocational work.
