Senior Council From way back in the days when the little Tom Thumb first chugged along its beaten track until today when the streamlined Twentieth Century Limited roars through our buzzing metropolis, the name Senior has been honored. For many cherished years trains have, at the end of each annual journey, taken on a, crop of new and inexperienced passengers and left behind their familiar Seniors. At the next stop we, the 1950 class of Ashland High School, will be left behind. We are much like our ancestors, who were long ago crowded off the old Tom Thumb into our same prob- lem. What next? We find ourselves stranded in the middle of the twentieth century. Behind us lies a half century of the attempts of our ancestors to make a more perfect civilization and ahead-well, that's up to us. As has been the thought of all Seniors before us, our first thought is if only we could buy a new ticket and start our journey all over again. We would start in the seventh grade, a bit green behind the ears, but filled to the brim with school spirit. We would be proud to take our places in the halls of A. H. S., scarcely breathing when a Senior would pass us in the corridor. With this beginning we would each year add new information and more activities to busy lives until we once more be- came Seniors. What fun it would be to re-elect our last Student Council, join our classmates in the mid-winter party, go once more to the Junior-Senior Prom, and again sponsor our class play, A Date With Iudy. We would like to attend another picnic at Chippewa Lake and receive our diplomas for a second time, but this is impossible. We are stranded at the same depot where the Tom Thumb first left off its Seniors. We cannot turn back into the first half of the twen- tieth century, for we have reached our first goal-graduation. Though we will never forget our carefree school days. we must follow the example of our forefathers and strive for our second goal-a more nearly perfect civilization to- morrow.
