They discovered gold! ow just one hundred years later a group of students have discovered gold, too. Although it has taken them four years to do this, they have panned many lumps along the Way. ' In our freshman year We chose our sites and settled down to mining. We got oft to a good start with algebra and Latin. The second year We du i t b g n o iology and geometry. We began to enter into more activities and near the end of this e y ar We chose a cabinet to rep- resent us 1n our 1un1or year. That year We were bound to strike gold! We held class meetings, selected our rings, and studied hard, but still no gold. Still searching, We presented our junior class play, Dear Ruth On Ma 28 194 h . y , 8, we discovered GOLD W en We planned and presented Opus in Pastels for the Seniors In the fall oi '48 We continued th G e old Rush hoping to make it in '49, We began to process our little lumps which we had discovered. We polished these lumps of knowledge, leadership, and character. They became shiny nuggets which shined their brightest in athletics, dramatics, organizations, music, and in the classrooms. Success has come the hard way for many of us and the easy Way for others, but We have all made it. In Iune We Will receive our reward and our last nugget of gold-the most brilliant of all-our diploma at graduation. The processing has been a hard task, but Ashland High School is proud to present its latest discovery of gold-the 49'ers. 23
