SENIOR COUNCIL Graduation is the end ofa long, long trail And the start of a newer, tougher one. We, the class of 1945, have tried for four years To reach this goal, not only with the right Credits, but also with the skills and ideals Necessary to shape our lives in a war-torn world. It has not been easy for us, the first War class of Ashland High, to gain our goal. Freshmen days were hardly started when We heard our radios blare the news of war One chill December afternoon. The bitter year of defeat and death That followed was also our sophomore year, And we tried through bond drives and Part-time jobs to help our fighting brothers. With rationing and work and saving, We struggled into 1944, and the junior class, With one year to go for our goal. D It was not all work and fight- There was time for a class play, The Bishop Misbehavesf' Time to thatch the bo ys' gym for A South Sea Island Prom. There were clubs and concerts And sports and dances and assemblies. Honors and a job well done marked the close Of our junior year . . . And here the tide of battle turned: We had not fought in vain. Courage and the will to finish the job Urged us through our senior year to that goal- Graduation. The class has lost many of its members Along the way, to the Army and the Navy: But they will be with us in spirit- In step as we march down the Aisle to the strains of Pomp and Circumstancef' And we who have fought two wars at once Will take up the challenge ofthe senior play, Tomorrow the World, And make tomorrow One World.
