Congratulations Members of the Class of 1940: You have at last reached that long sought goal. You have the distinction not only to be members of the largest class to be graduated from Ashland High School, but also to be graduating at a time when life everywhere is interesting and challenging. Lifels report card is concerned with your success, in whatever your work may be, only insofar in attaining that success you have been of service to your fellow man. In fact, few people ever obtain even marked financial success until they are so interested in a work of service that profits are forgotten and take care of themselves. It is my hope that as a result of your ex- periences in Ashland High School, each of you will be a good citizen and that democ- racy will be a way of life for you. For each of you there is a place and I wish that you find that place in life that is best for you. In the words of Victor Hugo, My idea is this: ever onward. If God had intended that man should go backward, he would have given him an eye in the back of his head. ,ff DUI? DDI CIIDAL- - SIDEAIYS. . . T0 HIS SECIQETAIQY T0 THE FACULTY MISS MCMILLEN... BUAIQD UI: EDUCATIDN O M Garber Pres E. P. Lersch-Clerk C W Freer Mrs. J. Allen Miller R R Teeter J. L. Grindle Absent E. Koehl-V. Pres. Congratulations to the Class of 1940 of the Ashland High School for having produced for all concerned an interesting and inspiring record of our school with particular emphasis on senior class activities. You have been learning by doing. You have been taught that there is no Bowery-beds-of-ease way to successful accomplishment. You are aware of the fact that the world is today looking for people who have something to offer besides brawn. Keep your mental windows open so that you may sense the way your abilities should take you and then go that way with all of the resources at your command. Our best wishes go to every one of you. May you be a credit to your school, your par- ents, your friends, and yourselves. J. E. BOHN Superintendent
