March 31, 1941. TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF 1944: Young Americans, yours is a rare privilege. You are being given the opportunity to live in one of America's greatest crises. You can see history in the making. There have been other critical periods for this country from the very beginning faced great dangers. The republic was born in the midst of a revolution, it was torn by a war between the North and the South and it was tried by numerous conflicts in develop- ing the new territory. However, it survived these threats to become a leading nation in which the ideals of freedom and justice are held dear. America is strong, you must help to keep it strong. A hearty congratulation is extended to you upon completing the program of the Secondary School. People are interested in you and your plans. A helping hand will be extended. Join wholeheartedly in your daily tasks. Respect authority. Recognize opportunity. You will be plac- ed increasingly on your own responsibility to face facts and new condi- tions upon which you must make your own decisions. Your success will be determined on how well you meet your obligations. One of the most difficult problems will be to maintain a reason- able balance between varied interests and demands on your time.Time is never lost that is devoted to work. Blessings go with labor. VVork is ai means of living, but there are times when it is not living. Learn to live easily and gracefully with your fellow men. Strive to grow up socially and intellectually, but above all, spiritually. Man lives by love. joy. hope. faith and spiritual insight. Religion is human spirit, by the grace of God, seeking and finding an interpretaton of life experiences that put sense. worth, dignity. pleasure and hope into life. Religion is indispens- able.
